iPing

Hi everyone... I have an Xcal and I am having some problems with my truck. I was getting a lot of pinging last summer with my tune installed, so after getting on here and not really finding an answer I just removed the tune. I noticed some light pinging without the tune after a while, and I thought maybe the xcal was just magnifying the problem...

Well I got the truck back and they said something about a loose spark plug and injector. I am looking for the paperwork so I can tell you guys exactly....

Anyways so I now reinstall the tune, and it seems pretty good... And then I start to notice the same old stuff... Basically at cruising speeds, say 50MPH, just holding enough throttle to be going that fast, I get pinging whenever there is a hill/grade of any sort. Its not constant, but there is plenty of it going on... Also at times when ging fro reverse to Drive, or just leaving from a stop.

I am tired of being mocked by these chumps in their GMs because I ping when I drive away and I need to get this fixed. I imagine its something wrong with my truck and not the tune, but any help is great... And this is the 87 Performance tune I am talking about, but the 91 does the same...

If I understood it correctly, stealth had this problem as well until he changed the fuel filter. How many miles on your filter?

Yeah, my ping is still there, it showed back up after the filter change eventually. It doesn't do it all the time so I don't think it's actually a ping, like when I'm on WOT or engine load it doesn't constantly ping, sometimes it pings none under those conditions, and this is stock or tuned. Normal ping (though it's not normal) happens all the time under engine load, but mine is sporadic and not at usual ping conditions. I plan on taking it in before the warranty goes out so my bud can check it out. I'm curious to see your paperwork findings Robamus.

Pulled the tune out today. Pinging is either gone or inaudible. Maybe I just need to call Mike and get a trans only tune because this is retarded.

Call him, and he can adjust your tune to prevent the spark knock. Or just run a higher octane.

Have either of you tried simply retarding your timing to see if this resolves it?
