Question changing modes on edge

hey all.. my edge is being shipped as we speak, and was just wondering.. if i put it in level 2.. will it still get better gas milage.. or not nearly what it would as if it were in level 1.. and also.. say im in level 2.. and im my freind wants to race me.. can i switch it into level 3 real quick..(while truck is running or does it have to be parked) and then switch it back to level 2 after.. and last but not least.. if this is possible.. is it ok to still run on regular gas.. or will it hurt to run it for such short amount of time like that.. i dunno.. any help is appreciated

all of your questions can be answered by reading the owners manual located here

I think all level two does is change the shift pattern, i could be wrong. I have yet to tow anything w/ it and i jumped right up to lvl 3. As far as i know it cannot be switched real quick, everytime you change levels the car has to be off and then turned to the on position but not started. then it takes about a minute or two for it to load. As for gas im running 91 oct in the lvl 3 when it says 93 but i dont think it matters that much. on lvl 2 i think its 87+ so if you could id say step up to the medium grade, but honestly i dont think it will matter that much. someone else could probably tell you more about the gas portion. . I get pretty good gas mileage w/ lvl 3 about 14-15 mpg.

i noticed slightly better (.2-.3) mpg increase on level three compared to level 2.. i run level two for the cheap gas! there is a nopticeable difference in the levels though. and you will have to turn the truck off to change levels

The EDGE Evo cannot tune the engine while running. It takes anywhere from a couple of minutes or longer to program the PCM depending on how many custom options you specify. Level 0 is stock, level 1 is transmission only tuning, Level 2 is tow compatible engine and trans tuning, Level 3 is performance engine and trans tuning, no towing. If you run Level 3 with regular gas, expect pinging (detonation) unless you back the timing down some which will pretty much make level 3 peformance the same as level 2. As far as mileage goes, I run Level 2 with no custom options all the time and I have picked up 1/2 to 1 MPG when I am not putting my foot in in it.

I would custom tune the EDGE on level 2.I have had the best luck with level 2 with 87 octane. The best MPG I have got is 17.6 on the Highway.

17.6 is good to hear.. but still am confused about level 1.. is that just like.. a little better then stock.. or is it focused on gas.. or is there a performance difference on that level also..

Level 1 is for transmission settings only.

I can tell a major difference between stock, level 2 and level 3 in all areas. Never tried level 1....not worth my time or effort to mess with a transmission only change.

My level 3 when running 93 my mpg goes from about 16 in level 2 to about 11.5 on level 3. For others its the exact opposite.
