Tuning for Headers

Hey Guys,

I guess this is really a question for Mike Troyer but please anyone else that has experince with headers for the 5.4 3V in the 04 and up F150 please chime in. I am serously considering getting a set of Dynatech headers and I am curious as to what the realistic gains are in HP & torque as well if addtional tuning is required. I already have an Xcal2 with Mike's tunes and an Airraid intake along with a Magnaflow SIDO muffler. Other than those mods my truck is stock. So Mike or anyone who has installed the Dynatech headers and has any information I would greatly appreciate it, thanks in advance!

P.S. By the way Mike, my truck is running great after you updated my tunes at the last Dyno Day. In case you don't remember mine was the white FX4 with the American Racing Torq Thrust II rims.

I just ordered a set of these headers from Mike earlier this week. I am running my truck on the dyno Monday to get a "baseline" reading for my truck. I then plan on running it after I have the headers installed to see how things changed and then one by one adding the other items and going back to the dyno each time to see what kind of numbers my truck actually gets. It may be a couple of weeks but I can keep you posted.

Haywagon,

Thanks man, I really appreciate your help . Are you planning on installing them yourself? I noticed in your sig that you have a Roush S/C, what kind of numbers (HP & torque) are you making now?

Thanks!

No, I spoke with Mike and he explained there are some factors such as a need to lift the motor a couple of inches to correctly install the headers that I do not want to deal with. He suggested going to the dealership to have these installed over your average muffler shop because of a special device that helps protect the motor when lifting it. I am taking his advice and going to the dealership for this.

As far as the HP and torque from the S/C I have an appointment at a dyno on Monday to see what I am getting to the rear wheels. I'll let you know on Monday.

Just got back from the dyno and came up with 346 hp and 392 ft lbs of torque at the rear wheels. Will see what it will go up to when I receive the stuff that is currently on order.

Hey if you have the dyno sheet, post this in the Supercharger forum..there's a dyno sticky at the top where everyone puts their numbers.

Even if you don't have the dyno printout, just post your numbers if you get a chance.

Just got the headers on today and wow, what a difference in sound! I finally have the sound I have been looking for with my truck. I highly recommend these Supermax headers to anyone with an F150 who is looking for an aggressive sound. I had only had a 40 series Flowmaster on it before and I was supprised at how weak it sounded. These headers and high flow cats they come with changed all that. Haven't been to the dyno yet but I will let you know how that goes later.
