Hi, I have a 4.2 and I want to get some more power out of it. What are some of your reccomendations for me to get the most HP while spending the least money in my situation. Ive done some research but I dont really know what to look for. Is there any that dont require a dyno to program? sorry i have alot of questions but basically just tell me what you would do in my situation Thanks in advance for those who reply

I have an o6 4.2 v-6 XL.I would recommend the xcal 2 with 87 performance,93 tow, 93 performance tunes.I loaded the tunes in my truck with around 3300 miles on it and now have over 14,000.The change from stock to Troyer tuned is very noteable, and worth every penny spent.I have only upgraded to a different drop in air filter, I'm waiting for AF1 to get the intake system out to us later this year.E-fans are on my list for the future and exaust.
the biggest inprovement will be the tuner with troyer tunes!

Hi TexasMusic,

Actually, we're getting more and more support for the 2006 F-150 with the 4.2 V6 - in fact, the Air Force One intake kit will be our very shortly, as I just discussed that with one of the owners last Friday!

In terms of what to do in what order, I recommend first, just as TSDan mentioned, doing our custom tuning in the XCalibrator 2 hand-held tuner - that is the single best bang-for-the-buck to start waking it up.

Next in the order of bang for the buck is always a good intake kit, and I would hold out here just a little while for the new Air Force One kit, as it will be out shortly for your truck.

Next on the bang for the buck list comes doing a quality cat-back exhaust system.

From there it's on to things like electric fans & underdrive pulleys.

And more parts will be available pretty soon for your new 4.2 V6 F-150 - more things like headers, ignition upgrades, and on and on - this is what we specialize in, is F-series performance especially in the F-150 - so don't worry, there is plenty of room for improvement in your truck.

Just start of with the tuning first, and go from there. To get more info on this, please give us a call at our number listed below & we'll be happy to help - and good luck with your truck!

Thanks for your reply Mike, You seem like a knowlegeable guy and I will take your advice since ive seen everyone on this board happy with your service. I just have a few questions...

Will this void my Ford warranty?

If I do mod the truck down the road and it requires more tuning, what will that cost?

How much HP and Torque on average would a reg cab v6 like mine gain?

Answer to #1:
US Code - Title 15, Chapter 50, Sections 2301-2312

Legally, a vehicle manufacturer cannot void the warranty on a vehicle due to an aftermarket part unless they can prove that the aftermarket part caused or contributed to the failure in the vehicle (per the Magnuson Moss Warranty Act (15 U.S.C. 2302(C)) .

According to the rules of this forum, no pricing is supposed to be discussed here. Your best bet is to call Mike up at Phone: (540) 862.9515 to get pricing info.

Sorry....can't help with #3, but using the search button may yield what your looking for.

Hi TM,

Blue 46 Screw basically covered everything pretty much in his response - for further details, you'll want to give us a call.

In terms of gains, the newest (say, 2006) 4.2 V6's tend to gain anywhere from 15-20 HP from the tuning alone in the F-150, but the improvement in actual acceleration feels like more than that due to all the other changes we make - so it's definitely worthwhile. Proper tuning is always the single best bang for the buck.

Also, just FYI - don't get hung up on peak HP gain claims - that is something that gets harped on way too much, and it's probably our fault almost as much as it is the general speed parts manufacturers themselves - see, it's always been a game of claiming the largest gains for the lowest possible cost, just to get the consumer to plunk their money down - and many times those numbers get misrepresented, or happen on a vehicle with other mods, and on and on - there are a million trucks in that regard.

In these trucks especially, while getting nice peak HP gains is fun, what it really key is getting the available *torque* at any throttle position or rpm maximized, *that* is what really makes the difference in how these trucks feel, drive & behave overall.

Talk to you soon,
