Help Pcm Problems
 
Guys I Need Some Serious Serious Help. I Took The Truck By Autozone To Get The Codes Scanned Because My Check Engine Light Was On. Well The Guy At Autozone Cleared The Codes And Everything And Now The Truck Won't Start. It Will Turn Over But No Ignition. Hooked The Computer Back Up And It Says It Can't Connect To The Pcm. I Have Checked Everything That I Know Of. Fuses, Relays, I Even Took The Pcm Out And Hooked It Back Up. Guys, Please Let Me Know If You Know Of Anything That Will Work. I Am In A Big Bind Here Because The Truck Is Stuck At Autozone.

What was the code?
We don't have a crystal ball either to be able to have any chance of even guessing.
Why would the code not at least be noted before clearing so you would know if the same one came back again.
There is a fuse that powers the PCM. Have you checked?
There is a fuse powering the port also.

the code was

fuel too rich banks 1 and 2
fuel too lean banks 1 and 2

where are the fuses at? i checked the 2 main fuse locations

Sounds like the codes were:

PO171 System Adaptive Fuel Too Lean ( Bank 1)
PO172 System Adaptive Fuel Too Rich ( Bank 1)
PO174 System Adaptive Fuel Too Lean ( Bank 2)
PO172 System Adaptive Fuel Too Rich ( Bank 2)

Taken from the Haynes 97-02 Repair Manual

Just a guess, but have you checked the fuel pressure?

Perhaps your fuel pump / regulator is dead. Try checking fuel pressure on the fuel rails. Is there any fuses for the fuel pump?

Don't know why it says it can't connect to the PCM. Do they have another scanner for you to try? If not, try another auto parts store like Checker / Kragen / Schucks I know they have pretty good loaner ones.

Try disconnecting the battery for 5 minutes or so with the lights turned on while it disconnected, maybe that will reset it.

Some questions.
Is the 'check engine lamp on in the Run position?
Does the PATS lamp flash abnormal?
Pcm power check at pins 71 and 97.
Dash panel fuse 2 for the PCM.
This is just looking for where/what the major problem is.

i checked all my power, even at the pcm. i disconnected the battery trying to reset the pcm, didn't work. I'm thinking when they erased the codes they erased the PCM?

I have no idea what the problem could be, but I do know that they couldn't have "erased the PCM" when they read/cleared your codes. The devices they use are simply scanners, not programmers. Good luck!

well i took it to my friend over at the ford dealership and he ran some tests on it. come to find out my ecu is fried. so if anyone knows where i can get one, part number 2c3a-12a650-cc

I recommend that you simply have your friend at the Ford dealership order the PCM you need - I do NOT recommend buying used PCM's or 3rd-party units - use only a new Ford PCM - the cost for the PCM itself is about $300, and there will be a fee to "marry" it to your vehicle so that it will properly communicate with the GEM module, instrument cluster, your keys, etc.
