Datalog Question???

I was trying to test out the datalogging with my xcal 2 to my lap tap. I did all the steps, such as xcal 2 to truck, usb cable to xcal 2, cable to lap top. Then I turned on my cpu, once it was booted up, I proceeded to turn on my truck. At that point, I opened up live link and it said device initialization failed. Check connection??? Then when i try the update, the cpu states that no xc2 devices were found....why am I not getting a connection from the xcal 2 to the cpu???? Do I need to download the Xcal2 drivers??? I'm kinda lost..I think that I need to download livelink directly from the sct website to my laptop. Right now, I downloaded it to a usb drive on my home computer and from there I plug it into the laptop. Im thinking the problem might be somewhere in that area...but seriously, any of you that have datalogged already with your xcal 2...I could use any help possible....

you installed it on your laptop right? also, in most cases if you have a usb device it needs to have power to it to be recognized by windows.. if it gets powered by the usb it will detect it no problem, but in your case you are getting power from your obd2 port so you have to have that plugged in and the xcal2 ON, then plug it into the pc that is on and it should detect it if you have everything installed right on the pc.

dont quote me on that...

no, i installed the livelink on a usb port, and I'm taking this and simply opening it on my lap top. I think that I should try and install livelink directly to my lap top from the internet so I only have one usb plugged in, rather than both the usb drive, and the xcal 2.

Tigga,

Install the software on your laptop. I loaded the driver files as a precaution. Plug your Xcal into the obiwankanobi port on your truck. Then plug the usb cable into the Xcal. Now, with the laptop turned off, plug the usb cable into the laptop. Then, fire her up. Windows "should" come up and tell you that it has found new hardware. Follow the prompts. If it asks where to find drivers, browse for your Xcal files. Select them, and proceed.
It was not very intuitive, so you have to be careful. After I did that, I still had problems until I followed the datalogging instructions form the SCTFlash site.
