Quickest Acceleration??

Just curious...when coming up to a red light and the truck next to you is someone you want to put a whooping on....do you take your OD off, or just leave your truck as is and floor it?? I'm just curious what the best off the line acceleration method is????

HI!... The O/D button has no effect on acceleration. All it does is allow you to turn your O/D off or on.

Yup. Your OD button just turns OD on/off. OD is pretty much your 4th gear.

Doesnt do squat for acceleration.

Just let it sit there idling, and then floor it - don't "brake torque" it, and no need to turn the O/D off (unless it's a Lightning at the drag strip), as it won't make any difference in the shift points for the 1-2 or the 2-3 or the power, etc. What will happen is, if you keep your foot into it, at a certain triple-digit speed it will finally get up into overdrive (4th gear), but I don't recommend taking it up to those kinds of speeds on public roads!

Ummm... Nope. Unless you have one of them rare 5-speed auto trannies in your '97

It's a 4-speed automatic... okay? You too are getting fooled by the TC lock/unlock.

With O/O off, you have 1-->3, plus the TC locking/unlocking as the shifting schedule/right foot dictates, and as your tuner should modify accordingly

Cheers

yeh i realised that. damn torque converter lock and unlock.. lol seems like i have a whole other gear sometimes... but most of the time lol its like a got a whole nother gear... because my mysterious "3rd" will go to about 100mph... then TC locks in in which will push to 130mph @5000RPM. so sometimes it wants to get up and go in the top end unless the TC locks in..

but im curious how difficult a T-65 swap would be... but 6 gears in a truck would be kinda hard for a daily driver... that or monsterbox rebuild for my 4r70W which is what i think my best bet is.. cost/durability wise

HI!... I'd like to know how you can get 130MPH in 3RD gear. I have a built 5.4 producing a lot more H.P than you and I can ring mine to 6800RPM in 3RD gear and all I can manage is 125MPH before I have to turn O/D on. What is the size of your tires? Rear gear ratio?
