Question For Mike Troyer

Hey Mike. I 'm in the process in filling out my paperwork on the xcal 2, and i'm wondering if it will let me change the tire sizes myself. I called today and you were busy, and my main concern is the following. My truck is reflashed and i have the new number, i also had them change the tire size to my new 20's. I understand that will be my stock configuration now. I have to pick 3 tunes, can i change the tire size myself with the 3 tunes i order? like 87 perf on 18's and 20's, 89 perf on 18 & 20's, and 93perf on 18 & 20's. Also will the xcal let me go back and change the stock configuration back to the 18's it came with?? My truck is an 2005 fx4 with the 5.4

The mako tuning the XCal2 comes with now lets you do that. Search around the forum here a little because Mike spells it out somewhere in a previous post what parameters are user-end adjustable

I called them yesterday and i think i talked to Crystal. She was unsure if i should go back to the dealer and set the pcm back to the original tire size. She said that the current size that is programmed, (my 20's) will be the stock setting now. I will be only running the factory wheels in the winter time. I just didn't want to waste a tune on the 18's. One other point i am unsure of is that if i have to go back to the dealer and set the pcm back to the 18's, do they have to reflash the pcm to do that? Then i would have to get a new pcm number again for them to set up my tuner..

Hi FX4ME2,

1) Yes, you can change the tire size on the XCalibrator yourself, no problem!

2.) No, your local Ford dealer CANNOT change tire sizes for you to anything other than what the FACTORY offered on that vehicle in that same model year - period. No matter what anyone else says, no matter what any Ford tech or dealership claims, they CANNOT make any change to anything other than what was offered by the factory on that vehicle and in that exact same model year.

Here' a potential kicker you need to know about - when they tried to change tire size, they may very well also have reflashed the PCM to the next latest revision available, too - so I'd make darn sure that you have the correct PCM information by having that dealer connect your vehicle back up to the WDS system and get us the the following 3 pieces of information" 1.) The exact filename/part number for the PCM's current load. 2.) The hex code info for the current PCM load. 3.) The strategy name of the current PCM load - and get that info to us BEFORE before we tune that vehicle, because if we tune that vehicle and it doesn't run right, it will be because of mis-matched codes, and you will have to pay us another fee to make all new custom tunes to actually match whatever the new computer code/reflash load actually is.

3.) Now IF the dealer actually DID make any change to the revs per mile specification for tires in your PCM, than whatever they put in there will STAY in there as your "stock" tuning from now on - unless you take it back to them and have them return it back to stock, and that is precisely what I would do - and while they are in there, make sure you get all of the info I listed above so that we will actually KNOW what's really inside that PCM.

I hope that info helps, & good luck!

Went back to the dealer and had it put back to stock! I had to call your shop and have Anita talk to my friend/tech to get the info that you needed. So i will fax sheets back to you tomorrow. Now the wait...

I have a question along those lines if I may Mike. I ordered my x-cal II from you using the stock tire size of 275-65-18. I have since gone to a 285-65-18 tire size and corrected the revs per mile for the new tire size on my x-cal. Do I need to re-input this info every time I switch tunes or does the x-cal store the new revs per mile figure permantely once input? Thanks for any input sir.

Normally it saves that kind of info (gears & tires) so that you do not have to re-enter that each time you change tunes.
