He everyone,
In general, any time you are looking for a dyno facility to get your A/F's, you can just drop by www.dynojet.com and see where their closest facility is - that is usually the most commonly found dyno as it's the least expensive.
Import shops generally are *not* the place to go for dyno pulls, as they usually have dynos that are set up for the much lighter weights of imports - or they use the type where you have to take the wheels off, I don't care for the accuracy of those on these heavy trucks with an automatic transmission. They can sometimes be OK, but a traditional Dynojet or Mustang dyno would be better, just speaking in general. If you are looking at an import shop, talk with them about what kind of dyno they have - if it's a typical 2500 lb inertia load type of dyno, forget it, that's not enough load to get good datalogging info on these heavy trucks.
I would *not* be asking any import shop for advice on performance mods for these trucks - unless you specialize in these trucks, you just aren't going to have the knowledge necessary to give the best advice & get the best results - that's *not* a "knock" on those guys, it's simply a different knowledge base - just like I would not be the best guy to go to for Honda advice. I would be "OK" maybe, but certainly not the best as we haven't done Honda stuff in years. Just FYI............
For zombiemachine - if you need some solid advice, you might want to give us a call, we're happy to help. Remember that your 4.6 has a different deck height than a 5.4 - now if you are just going to drop a complete Lightning engine & transmission in, thats' fine, you will need the PCM from the Lightning as well as yo cannot control a 4R100 tranny with a 4R70W PCM - which is what you have now.
If you are just going to drop in a Lightning engine, it will bolt up, and we can certainly tune it with your original factory PCM - just remember that the transmission will not stand up to the torque of a Lightning engine for any length of time unless you baby it, the 4R70W just isn't made for that kind of torque input over the long haul without a good performance build put on it. You can try getting by with a good shift kit for a while, until it breaks, and then put a good performance build with more clutches, etc in that 4R70W later on.
That's just some quick brief and very generalized info - call us if you need help!

not to change the subject (i'll save the L swap ?'s for another section) but that is interesting to know about the computer not being compatible b/w the two models. in terms of the Xcal2 i ordered, will you be able to send me a different tune for that when i am ready to pull the 4.6L and drop the built 5.4 in? i've read some discussions on here about using the Xcal2 for different vehicles but i haven't seen any posts yet that directly address engine/pcm upgrades
btw i will definitely be calling again when the time is right to perform the L swap....i need parts galore!!!

Hardcore
The place in Northridge I was looking at has the small dyno that is portable and they have one that is drums built in to the ground , does anyone now if the built in one is enough. Or which model dynojet should be used for the trucks. Thanks for the referrel tn colton , but I'm going to try to find someone closer to me , since I live brithplace of hot rodding there's got to be some around here some where. I was hopping someone would post from around here that has had the dyno's done as per TP spec.'s.

if it wasn't a 40 mile drive down the 405 i'd go there btw does anyone know what the going rate is if you just need to log your A/F ratio as opposed to doing a "comprehensive" dyno session? do shops normally charge by the hour or just a flat fee, how does it work? only 4 more days til my Xcal2 arrives, hooray for the UPS man
