Help a newbie out!

I have a 2001 Supercab with the 4.6. I want more power and to have it drive better. It is my daily driver to college so I will most likely only use 87 octane. What unit do you suggest I get? Ive heard nothing but good stuff about Troyer, but im confused with the xcal and all that stuff?

Oh yea I have a K&N Intake and Flowmaster exhaust. I am also going to be upgrading to 33s so i would like it to be able to adjust my speedo for those as well.

thanks for any advice

The XCal2 is the way to go IMO because it’s the most versatile hand held tuner available. Give Mike a call and let him know what you want. You’ll also get a discount for being a member of f150online

Hi Silver,

The XCalibrator 2 is the way to go hardware-wise simply because it has by far the most features, including ob-board program adjustments to things like shift points, timing, fueling, speedometer recalibration, Internet download firmware updates, USB connectivity to your PC, etc., etc. For example, it will allow you to make your own adjustments to recalibrate the speedometer for things like tire size changes, gear ratio changes, etc. As par of our custom tuning, we will go ahead and calibrate the speedo or whatever you have on the vehicle when you place your order, but if you make a change after that, you can easily recalibrate the speedo yourself by just pushing a few buttons on the XCal 2.

We also provide a set of 3 different custom tunes, so you can have tunes for 87 octane, as well as for premium gas when you want maximum power, also a tune for towing, etc., whatever works best for each individual vehicle owner's needs - that's the whole idea of custom tuning, have it set up for how you need to use your vehicle.

There are also a couple of less expensive alternatives for our custom tuning if you do not want all of those features - for example, if you have a different tire or gear right now, we can plug that in and then if you change that later on, we can change it for you in a unit like the original XCalibrator 1, and that would save you a little bit of money, if you're on a tight budget. Of course, as John said in his post, you get a special discount on all of our tuning products because you are a registered member here on F-150 Online.

Just give us a quick call to go over everything & we'll go over all the details, etc - it's a lot easier than you might think!
