Performance to towing how long?

I'm calling TP monday , for now any opinions on changing the xcal2 from performance to towing. How long do I to install the tow program before I tow? I just got the xcal yesterday, installed the 87 performance tune, waiting for it to learn. When I need to tow does the xcal need time to relearn tow program before I hookup trailer? If I change from performance to tow, hookup trailer and go will it shift ok with out damage or hardship on the Transmission

Be back later going to teach my truck for awhile. Maybe I'll llook for a good school, Wonder if UCLA is faster than USC

No need to worry, you can tow immediately. Your computer is learning adaptive but this does not prevent you from towing immediately after switching tunes. It should make even more power on the towing tune (or any other tune) after a few "drive cycles".

HI rj28racer,

What Eric said in his response is exactly right - if yo need to do towing, you can change to your towing tune and then go ahead and tow right away, you don't have to wait.

When we talk about the tuning doing "m,roe" once you have some miles & drive cycles accumulated, what we are referring to is simply the PCM's adaptive strategy adapting to the new tuning - as you accumulate the first few hundred to 1000 miles or so after installing out tuning, you will generally pick up some more power. For example, in the 2004 & up 5.4 3V F-150's, they generally pick up another 10 HP or so at the wheels after driving it for a while.

So rest easy, you can change your tuning to do whatever you need to do, and then do it right away - no need to wait to enjoy performance tunes or to be able to tow, just install the appropriate program and do what you need to do!

Have fun,

Mike's right on!

I just came back form a 3,000 mile trip towing my TT from Southern Cal to the Columbia river and parts in between. When I unhooked my TT for several days at a time I just "re-loaded" my performance tune until I hooked up again to tow a few days later. Then it was back to the tow program and off we went. No waiting involved and it works very well.

Thanx for the info. I'm really happy with the TP products and customer service is great also. Thanks for answering all these repeative questions, I know it's a pain in the a!! but I think it's more comforting to get direct answers and opinions, there are so many different answers to the same subject in the search it can be confusing. Also I like to avoid the negitive BS that people make up, that just depresses me. My ford truck has been great and has had no problems to date 18,700 miles. Talk to you after tax returns next year, I don't see a supercharger listed for a 05 5.4 3v in your products on the website yet?

Give Mike a call and I think he can boot one up for you.

He has the info you need to make a good decision. I'm saving for mine right now.

Hi rj28racer,

Thanks for your kind response!

And I do have to apologize, as our web site shows maybe 2% of what all we actually carry & do here at Troyer Performance - we have been providing superchargers for these trucks for years, and can supply a great supercharger for the 2004 & up 5.4 3V F-150 too, for example. Just give us a call & we'll be happy to go over all of that with you!

PS - cool pic!
