Datalogging ?
Im setting up my config file for datalogging through the Xcal2 using the SCT Livelink software. I'm trying to find the "throttle position %". I found several "throttle position paramaters but none in %. Does one of these paramaters need to be changed somehow or is there one already in %. I cant find it if there is.
That depends largely on the type of PCM, and then to a certain extent, it's exact box code - so there are numerous different parameters it can be, especially in the 1472 OAK-based ETC trucks, like the 5.4 3V F-150.
The best thing to do for support on LiveLink is to go to the SCT web site, and go into their message boards as there is a section specifically for LiveLink support.
In the EEC-V vehicles like the 2003 & earlier F-150's, it's easy to find - in the ETC trucks, there is ETC throttle position, Pedal position, throttle mode, and many other parameters - they way you learn which one works best to give the info you want on each individual truck is to simply experiment, by spending more time working with LiveLink. Go thru each and every section once it connects to your vehicle's PCM, and simply select everything in lower case, and then a maximum of 15 upper case parameters, and simply record some datalogs with all that info - then open up that file in Excel, as the file format that LiveLink uses is already .csv - once the file is open in Excel, freeze the panes right under the top line where all the parameters are listed, so you can scroll down and still have the headers follow you as you scroll, and then you will easily be able to identify which specific parameters you want to use.
We go thru this every dyno day, as some 5.4 3V's offer different PID's & DRM's to log - and remember, the ETC trucks never work as simply as the EEC-V earlier vehicles do in this regard, due to the throttle by wire (ETC) system.
The reason to log throttle position (which you can also log as "pedal position" in the ETC trucks) is simply to see if the driver was actually at idle or at full-throttle, as far as our datalogging instructions are concerned - and we cna also see that by logging engine rpms & vehicle speed, for example.
In the ETC trucks, there are so many way-cool parameters you can datalog. At some point, I guess we'll need to take the time to write a new set of datalogging instructions for the ETC trucks - in all our spare time!
You can easily get the data needed by simply working with LiveLink as I've described above, to identify which parameters give you the info desired on your individual vehicle.
One other tip - to get Open Loop status ( to see when it changes from open loop to closed loop, select AL of the "Open Loop Flag" parameters - usually it's only the upper case one that works on the ETC trucks, for example - but there are at least 2, and sometimes 3 different "Open Loop Flag" PID's 00- look all of them to make sure that info is attained.
The bottom line is that if you have an ETC truck, they are more involved, so its a good idea to drop by that message board & read some of the posts, and if you have a specific question, ask it there.
Have fun!
