Hi 5.4Screw,

Just wanted to drop a quick note as I saw your response and then went back and re-read my post, and realized that perhaps my attempt at an emphatic-sounding reply could potentially be construed or perceived as less-than-diplomatic, and/or I should have taken more time and explained in more detail - my apologies if my post sounded "heavy-handed" or something similar, as that wasn't my intention - I was in a bit of a hurry, and was just trying to be emphatic - mostly out of concern for anyone misunderstanding something I may post & potentially making a decision based on a misunderstanding!

I'm not the best writer (that's probably an understatement), and given the number of people who read these posts, sometimes in trying to make sure that anyone who reads a particular post where I'm trying to make a point emphatically, my post may come off as sounding different than what I actually intend - and I do get in a hurry sometimes with our schedule, etc., so there are times when I need to either explain or edit a post - so I just wanted to drop back by to explain a bit better to you, so that hopefully, I don't end up rubbing you the wrong way (so to speak), or offend anyone when I try to make a point emphatically, etc. Anyway, I hope you get my drift.

Just to talk a little bit more about the datalogging capabilities of the XCalibrator 2.............

It's current firmware requires the use of the LiveLink software and that needs to be run on Windows XP - Windows 98 won't cut it, for example - just FYI. However, this is just temporary! There will soon be a downloadable firmware update for the unit that will enable it's **on-board** datalogging capability, where you will be able to datalog up to 15 parameters (if memory serves, I think that's the max number of PID's it can log simultaneously with that new firmware) without having to use a laptop to connect to it, and that should be available within the next few weeks. One of the nicest features of the XCal 2 is it's ability to do a firmware update via a simple Internet download & USB cable connected to your PC.

Now for those who want to datalog a LOT of parameters simultaneously (more than 15), then for *that* you will still need to use a PC - and a laptop is obviously the hot tip of course, for portability - though it can be any PC running Windows XP.

This is what we do in many cases - for example, this past Dyno Day we used each vehicle owner's own XCalibrator 2 for datalogging their vehicles while we ran them on the dyno to get the A/F's, and it's speed is amazing - we datalog a lot of parameters, and on 500+ HP engines it's so fast that it's typical for us to get anywhere from 4-12 data samples at the exact same engine rpm when accelerating at full-throttle on the dyno!

You'll get kick out of it's datalogging capabilities, & for everyone, don't worry too much about needing a Windows XP laptop to datalog - that is strictly a temporary thing, as SCT wanted to get the unit out as quickly as possible, and is one of many reasons why they designed it so that it can easily have it's feature set vastly enhanced as time goes by via a simple firmware update via an Internet download - and the next firmware update will be out soon that will allow you to datalog without a PC.

I hope that clears things up a bit, & thanks for your responses, 5.4Screw & everyone!

Hi Mike, I get your drift and understand your response. No Problem here!!! I look forward to getting the ability to use the end user capability of the XCAL2. I also did not realize the A/F issues either, my fault for not understanding how to approach that issue. Thank you for the update. Also, my XCAL2 is coming!!! Scheduled for a 09/21 drop-off. Thanks Mike... The wait is almost over...

Well it sounds like you'll still be getting yours before me, 5.4, I ordered mine with ground shipping to the West Coast so it won't be here until Friday.

But I think there will soon be a lot more posts about Hemi hunting and Titan torturing!

I am most interested in the tune itself. ie: smoothness of the engine tune, throttle lag issues, transmission shifting/points, increased hp/tq, better gas mileage, being able to light'em up when the "feeling" arises and the ability of my rig to "hold her own" against the "others" out there. I feel like my 20 month old son, giddy, happy, laughing, all at the same time. I will post my initial thoughts on the tunes shortly. Take care All...............
