Transmission Question!
Transmission Question!
I know this is not a "Transmission" thread but I think it is the only place I can get the answer I need! Mike, How much horse power can the tranny in our 2005 Lariats take and still maintain a decent lifespan? My plan here is to put basically your stage II mods in my truck. So with that being said, are there mods that can maintain the tranny, or will it be just fine with the standard fluid changes? Keep in mind, I will drive it!!!!!!! I would like some of your suggestions on what NOT TO DO. The HP increase will make a significant differance, so will it take it?
Thanks in advance!

Hi Ted,
The 4R75-E transmission is rated for 750 lb/ft of torque, including the torque multiplication of the torque converter.
In our Roush supercharger package for the 5.4 3V F-150's, it provides a replacement warranty for the entire powertrain because in their testing, at power levels all the way up to about 500 HP, they found no reduction in service life of any aspect of the powertrain - engine, transmission, differentials, driveshaft(s), transfer case, etc.
And our own 2004 SuperCrew Lariat 4x4, a 6200 lb pig (empty weight), is putting out that kind of power and we don't take it easy on it in the least, and we've never had any problems, nor have our customers with those superchargers had problems.
So no, the Stage 2 kit is not going to cause transmission problems that would not happen anyway at some point in time, is perhaps the best way to put it.
The biggest thing is simply not revving it to levels that are going to hurt parts. Keeping the revs to a decent level keeps the torque converter happy, and that is the weak link in these F-150 powertrains, generally speaking. And of course, we do not spin them to levels that would cause damage, and we keep the rev limiters fully intact - it's the top speed limiter that we remove.
