xcal2 question

I know this place that is selling the xcal2's for $350 with free shipping and it comes with a usb cable. I think i am going to buy it. I am new to buying things online so i wanted to check with some people here to see if that was a good deal. I think it is cheaper than other places because i always seem them between 400-410. Also, if it a group purchase so i think the price is much lower than normal. Let me know what you guys think.

That does seem low for an XCal2, however what you need to realize is that the tunes that come loaded in the unit are probably more important than the unit itself. Sure you need the unit, but if the tunes loaded in it are sub par you could end up with problems. All that to say that Mike Troyer is the man you couldn't go wrong with. His customer service is top notch and his tuning expertise is the best. I can say that from my personal experience and from seeing the many many great reviews he gets here on the board. And because you are a member here, when you call him to place an order you will get a special members only discount. Give him a call and once you hear what he has to say I think you will see why many here sing his praises. His number is (540) 862-9515, you may get Anita at first but not to worry she knows her stuff as well if Mike is busy or not available.

Well the guy i was talking to about getting it from seems to know his stuff. He is from the atlanta area and used to own his own tuning shop. He has worked with some pretty impressive cars. I think i even saw a viper in a picture of his shop! Do they have to make their own tunes or are the tunes available to all the dealers? I think my guy has a great reputation but i would like to know more about these tunes. What does the guy tuning it actually have to do? If they all have the tunes and it is just different guys putting them on i will just look for the cheapest price. I just know my guy now said he would give me 3 tunes with a usb cable and give me updates. But i will call that guy and see what he has to say.

Remember, you are paying for both the device, and the tune itself, so consider that in the original purchase price.

all sct dealers have access to starter files for a good starting point, but also have full access to the tables to create their own tunes. This is where going with somebody who has put lots of R&D into a certain vehicle type may be worth the extra $$.

Thanks for the help. The guy i am probably going to get it from has owned his own tuning place for years. I have seen pictures of all the cars he has tuned and worked on. He is also an authorized sct dealer. Even with all of that he seems to have a very low price. If you think i am making a big mistake let me know and i will think about it. It just seems that someone who has been working with fords this long should be excellent at tuning them.

If it seems too good to be true....it is. Why so low a price? I have an Xcal 2 from Troyer Performance and can only speak in relation to his product...it's great and I have no regrets nor do I second guess my decision.

By all means call this vendor with the $350 price and talk to him than call Mike Troyer and talk to him.

truckermania you owe it to yourself to call Mike at Troyer Performance and talk to him about what you expect out of the Xcal2 and the tunes you want. Just do it, it’s only a phone call and IMO it will save you grief in the long run, knowing that you at least touched all bases gathering information.

I am going to call both of them. If they say basically the same thing to expect from it then i will get the cheaper one. If one is much better than the other then i will go with that guys. I have a feeling that they are both very good at tuning.
