Another superchip problem for mike

I just purchased a single program chip from troyer for my 2003 4.2 5speed. I got some serious power loss. literal my top speed is 80mph, that's 4th gear WOT. I know about the adaptive stategy and relearn but has anyone had this much power loss.

I don't think so, they has my make/model/year/engine and ecu code all correctly printed on the chip.

There shouldn’t be a “power loss” from installing a chip. There must be another underlying problem somewhere and I doubt it’s adaptive strategy.

My advice is call Troyer Performance

I called superchip and they first had me clean the conection for the third time (I did not want to because the tin coating it now gone or scratched). Then they said that probably my computer has been reflashed. So instead of my code being VLW2 it may be VLW3 or 4, and the only way to find out want it is, is to bring is to the dealer. Now in the morning I'm going to the dealer and paying for and hour of labor unless someone know anybody in Baton Rouge that can do it. I really don't want to spend 70 buck for this.

It’s going to take the service tech longer to roll the diagnostic machine over to your truck than it’s going to take him to read the code. Maybe they’ll cut you a break on the price.

In your origianal post you said you bought your chip from Troyer. Then when it didn't work did you call Troyer or Superchips? I would sure be calling Troyer Per. before spending any $$$$.

If the pcm has been reflashed, the dealer is supposed to put a sticker under the hood and write on it the pcm revision that they flashed to. I would first look for that sticker and if you can't find it, then I would take the truck back to the dealer where you bought it from or had service work done and I would ask them to plug in and determine the code. I would use the angle with the dealer that you shouldn't have to pay for something that the dealer should have done anyway, which is to put that sticker under the hood.

I have a good relationship (meaning I have spent plenty of $$ there) with my local dealer. They know full well that I would raise h_ll if they ever flashed my pcm without asking me first. They also know I have custom tuning in both of my Fords.

Good luck,

enb

F-150 Sleeper,

As you know, our staff is already dealing with you on this - so you need to continue to work with our staff and do as they instruct. That is how this gets resolved.

As our staff has already informed you, you have one of 2 problems - either incorrect installation (which is the problem 99% of the time) - or the PCM has been reflashed.

If the PCM has been reflashed, that is easily verified by having any Ford dealership use the WDS system to retrieve the hex code and call our staff with that information, so they can confirm what the computer code is. If the PCM has been reflashed, we can easily reprogram the chip with the correct code to take care of it. If it has not been reflashed, then you have an installation problem and will need to install it properly - or the contacts on your PCM have been damaged from improper cleaning technique and will need a simple repair by someone who is *competent* to lay back down a coating of the appropriate solder and check continuity o the contacts.

In any event, you need to continue to work with our staff on this.

Good luck!
