I 'm not ouching this one/ You need to give Troyer Performance a call directly. Just for your info. members of this site get a reduced price from them so give them a call.

You get what you pay for...

Hi.

Good advice - what you are paying for is the quality of the tuning... the X2, ( or any other custom tuning device) is just an appliance - it's the quality, experience, customer service and integrity of the tuner himself and the product he delivers that you need to consider.

Read through this post completely, then decide for yourself.

Hi chrisrud15,

No authorized SCT dealer can sell those units at that kind of price to begin with - there is one character who has been going to web site after web site, putting up posts like that on various message boards, but the manufacturer is already aware of that and will immediately shut them down over that. Remember, no bonafide tuner is ever going to do that.

As the other posters mentioned, NEVER shop for custom tuning based on price - that is a bad mistake. And don't make the mistake of thinking that you get the same tuning no matter where you buy the XCalibrator or XCalibrator 2 - that is not even remotely true! That hardware arrives BLANK - EMPTY - and then it's up to the individual tuner to do the actual tuning work on their own. Unfortunately, there are some "companies" that have no real tuning experience - all they do is load up a pre-built generic file and send it out the door calling it a "tune." That is not even remotely a proper tune, and certainly isn't custom tuning - and will never get the results that we do. We have specialized in these trucks for 14 years and know this platform well - that is why most people here come to us for their F-150 performance needs.

There are hundreds of companies out there (new ones pop up everyday) claiming to be "truck performance" or "F-150 performance" specialists - and the majority of them have no real R&D experience on this platform, they are simply trying to "cash in" and thanks to the Internet, it's all too easy to throw up a web site that makes you look like you're really something, when in so many cases, it's one guy driving around using a cell phone - or it's just a phone operation drop-shipping virtually everything - etc., etc.

You get what you pay for - at best. If you cannot afford to do it right, then don't do it until you *can*. NEVER take shortcuts with the most important aspect of your vehicle - the powertrain controls - that's a good way to end up with problems that will cost you FAR more than the price of *proper* tuning.

Last - you need to CALL US, just as our web site very clearly points out about the 9400 (XCalibrator 2), for your special discounted price on our custom tuning products (ONLY) as a registered member of this web site - sounds like maybe you didn't read the details about that product on our web site, as we point out in the detailed description that F-150 Online members get a special break on that product - and if need be, we can always do a single tune for you to get the price even lower.

My advice is to modify the vehicle using the best parts (especially things like tuning, intake & exhaust mods) - forget trying to take the cheap route, these are nice expensive vehicles. The smart thing to do is to just set your quarters, etc., aside for as long as is required to save up enough to do it right - use only the best parts in each area of modification, so you will have a vehicle you really can be proud of, and one that performs better than others with the similar types of mods who took the cheap route.

Best of luck whatever you decide!
