superchips or predator?
i had the hypertech but diched it for the superchips 9100 custom tuner by mike troyer, i like it because it is custom tuned for my mods and if i do futer mods i can download from my pc derectly to the tuner, i highly recomend it dont know about the predetor
Well, One thing about the pred is it's ability to make custom tunes you want, you can get dyno time and make your own tune with a little research. You can also turn of the EGR a big plus to me, since all the EGR does is clog the intake and hurt performance.
Like bigtruck311 I also had the hypertech then went to the 9100 supertuner from TroyerPerformance. The hypertech just didn't give my what I wanted. I've heard good things about the predator, but you can't beat custom from Mike Troyer, he is the God of tuning. Hope this helps.
Hi joebronco94,
What will actually get you the best results on the F-150 is to use either our 9100 (Custom Micro Tuner) or our 9300 (Custom Xcalibrator) - in other words, our Troyer Performance *custom* tuning.
We've specialized in performance tuning this platform longer than anyone else, and are well known for getting the best results - which is why you see the vast majority of people here using our Troyer Performance custom tuning in their F-series vehicles.
It's not a matter of what hardware you use that determines the results - what determines the results is the actual *tuning*- not what delivers the tuning to the PCM. It's the actual platform-specific knowledge of the tuner that makes the difference.
If you'd like to go over this in more detail, please feel free to give us a call at our number listed below, & best of luck whatever you decide!

I liked the idea about the Predator because not only can it hold a custom tune but you can data log with it as well as read OBDII codes.
However, I am still waiting for the release of the NEW Xcalibrator2 that will not only data log but hold, I believe, 3 custom tunes I also think it will read OBDII codes.
Hopefully the Xcalibrator2 will be priced to compete with the Predator, which is approx. $400 which includes a custom tune. I am really hoping the Xcalibrator2 will do what I have read because the best part is I would be able to purchase it through Mike.
From my years here and reading through hundreds of post Mike’s service is top notch and you couldn’t ask for a better company to do business with…

how does it work if i decide i want to do some up grades. like pulleys, air intake, exhaust, and gears. would i need to do all of that first or will it let me adjust for them, or have mike retune the programmer. just need some info on that.
As one that has had a "shelf tune" device,(Superchips 1714 MAX microtuner) I can tell you Troyer's Custom Tuning beats it, hands down. I understand wanting to see some of the things and being able to adjust some of the parameters, but is that what you want to spend money on, or is better(far better) performance what you want. To me, the functionality of the device is secondary to how your truck runs.
With that being said, I may or may not go for the Xcalibrator 2. One thing's for sure though. If any tuning changes are made on my truck, Troyer Performance will do it.
BTW Mike, my truck is even better than I would have thought. I kind of hate seeing boat season here as I'll have to run the tow tune

I don't see how you can agrue that Mike does a better job tuning then a custom tune on a preditor. With his, he's giving a so so tune set for almost all trucks. With the Pred and a good shop you can dyno your own truck and make a true custom tune instead of a one size fits most. The pred allows you to adjust as the RPMs change with mikes, i don't believe you can do that. Mike also doesn't allow for live monitoring so who knows if you are really getting the most out of his program, can you see knock retard levels Injector timing, trans line pressure, nope, all important tools in a true performance tune. Lets face it, a dyno, A/F guage and true custom tune Can't be beat for individual perforance. I am in no way trying to put mike down, he does a good job for the aveage joe willing to settle for a somewhat custom tune but those wanting to get the most out of their truck should look at something like a pred which allows for a true custom tune.
Boy, I can't wait for this reply.
The base factory tune on a Predator is so good, that some people are blowing their motors on their L's do to too much timing and too lean A/F.

Do you not think that there is a reason so many around here go to Mike for tunes, even without dyno/datalogging info?

If you knew what you where talking about, then you would not even opened your mouth on this thread
If I even know what I'm talking about??? I have a great ammount of experience with programs like LS1 edit for GM vehicles thank you. LS1 is more complex with more programming options then a superchips tuner. Secondly, I've never even heard of this mike guy off of this board. I would trust someone like Sean Hyland, Saleen and several local tuners who do custom tunes to tune my ride over some guy named mike 1000 miles away who's never even seen a dyno reading on my truck. But I know nothing about tuning (lol
). Not using data logging to make a tune is just asking for problems or a reduction in possible gains. As for preds blowing L motors yep it's true, with any perforamance mod you risk blowing your motor but, if you look most were pushing over 550 crank hp, which is the limit on these weak 5.4s. The new tunes are less aggressive and have fewer problems (see pred was trying to get the most out of their tunes, others were just getting by and it bit them in the ***). As for you guys saying preds aren't that great, enjoy looking at my tail lights and pondering why you have a supertune and exhaust and just got owned. I put faith in the pred and most people with N/A 5.4s on here haven't even given it a chance. If I went by what I read on the net I wouldn't have a F 150 due to fires, spark plugs blowing out, transmissions shattering and the list goes on. The fact of the matter is that, to each their own and we'll see you at the finish line.
