Superchip pros and cons?
I see LOTS of praise for the Superchip! Who developed this? Someone named Mike is all I can gather.
It seems premium fuel (89+) is required?
I will be buying an automatic 4.6L and am just wondering when is a good time to purchase. I will most likely get the intake and play with that for a while first. Is it necessary to wait thru the "break in period" before doing a major mod like the chip?
What kind of long term effects are a result of the chip? Will it help/hurt the motor in the long run at all?
Sorry for all the questions, but I appreciate the help.
Thanks!

Hi Bernie,
The short answer to Superchip Pros/Cons are listed below:
Pros
----
1. Best "bang for buck" mod available
2. Both performance AND shifting improvements
3. Never-ending smile on your face as you drive your truck.
Cons
----
None. Ok, maybe three:
1. Additional cost of premium fuel (IMHO -- worth the price of the added improvments it brings)
2. Worse fuel mileage (Due to heavy foot syndrome that seems to coincide with the installation of the chip -- seriously, though, without this syndrome some MPG improvement has actually been seen by some)
3. The ache in your face from the never-ending smile
Regards

Hi Bernie,
The Superchips was invented and designed by the company Superchips, and we here at Performance Products serve as the National Distributor of that product line. So we didn't actually invent it (I wish we had!), we market it.
Premium gas of 92 octane or higher is required with any performance chip that actualy increases power, so that is somethig that the Superhcip requires as well, the use of premium gas. 91 octane is usually OK at the higher altitudes whre that is there premium gas.
There is no specific break-in period per se with today's new vehicles, but we think it's a good idea to get 300-500 miles on a brand new vehicle before doing modifications, just so you know that the vehicle itself has no immediate problems and is operating as it should.
There are no long-term negative effects of the Superchip on your vehicle, it's not pushing any components beyond their design limitations, etc. it's a simple 10%-12% power gain. We have many customers who have been with us for years and tend to keep their trucks for a long time, people who have 100,000, 150,000 and up to 300,000 miles and more on their vehicles with the Superchip, just so you know.
If you would like to go over any of this in greater detail, please feel free to give us a call at our number listed below, and we'll be happy to go over any question or concerns you may have.
Oh, and congratulations on your new truck!
