Dyno Graphs from Superchips??
With the recent discussion on the validity of Superchips advertising, I am curious to know whether Superchips has dyno graphs for the various Ford powertrains - chipped and unchipped.
There seems to be only ONE graph available to us - the one in the Online Store. However, Mike himself questions the accuracy of that particular graph.
Mike, since Superchips has performed rigous testing of their product, can you post these dyno results somewhere that best represent the product's performace for all the vehicle configurations (i.e. 5.4/4.6/4.2L auto/manual)?

Hi Venom 99,
You raise an excellent point, so I'll go over that a bit here.........
First, don't assume that because there is only one graph here on F-150 Online, that this is all the manufactuer has ever done on F-150's. We never set out to post any graphs here in our online ordering system, it was just supposed to be something quick & simple to let people order them online here rather than a separate web site filled with all teh tech info, etc., and just to let you know, it's not in the F-150 Online Store, we have a separate online ordering system for the Superchip. As I have mentioned here previously, the one graph that is here in our online ordering system is simply a graph that Steve the Webmaster here was kind enough to pull off their old web site in an effort to make our online ordering system look a little nicer. We greatly appreciated it and thanked Steve for doing so, of course. We never set out to have all those graphs, we don't have all that paperwork, only the manufacturer would. We aren't ever going to have all the graphs of every possible configuration here in our little online ordering system, that is the manufacturer's job of course, so I would suggest asking them directly for any dyno plots you want, as only the manufacturer can supply them. Speaking of their web site, Superchips is currently in the midst of updating their entire web site, so that's going to be on-going and take a while with all their applications.
Since we've been talking about the fact that we need something more up to date than the graph that we've all seen on the 1997 4.6 F-150, I have spoken to Superchips about this, and they are going to check through all their hard-copy files, and see if they can provide us with a dyno plot on a stock F-150 that has been saved. With the fact that they have so many thousands of applications, they rarely save every dyno plot, the storage requirements for all that paperwork is somewhat of a massive project, and if you've ever been to either of their facilities in Florida, you quickly see that they are literally bursting at the seams for space.
But you're right in that we need something more and I'm the first to agree, so I have taken this up with Superchips, and they're going to get back to me as soon as they can with what they find. It is going to take some time, as a search will have to be done thru all their hard-copy plots to see if they can supply us with one that we can use here for the later F-150's that reflects current program results on a stock truck.
Now, worst case scenario, if they cannot supply that for us, then we will set up a dyno session for a stock F-150 and do the direct before & after plots. That could take a little while, as the dyno is heavily scheduled for R&D, but if that needs to be done to get us that current plot, then we will do whatever it takes to make that happen.

Moose-man,
You're going to feel like you picked up about 10% more motor under the hood, is one way to put it, and I think about the simplest and most accurate way to express what you should expect from installing the Superchip.
Nobody can guarantee that you are going to get an exact horsepower number as a result, as that depends on the general health and condition of your vehicle's powertrain, etc., and the quality of fuel being used, as energy content varies.
But in terms of giving you an answer as to what to expect your vehicle to actually feel like from installing the Superchip, you should expect it to feel about 10% stronger in terms of the horsepower gain over what it's making right now.
With regards to our return policy, we do have a return policy, and that is simply that if the Superchip for some reason does not work properly on your vehicle, of course we'll take it back. What we won't do is to accept unconditional returns on Superchips that are working properly, there isn't any reason for a return if the product is functioning, and it's extremely rare for it not to.
Moose-man, I understand your concerns, you want to know that you got your money's worth, and that the product does basically what we say it will do, which is to provide you with a vehicle that is going to feel about 10% stronger in terms of the horsepower gain. You've been around here long enough, and have seen the many posts from those who install it and love it. It's quite clear that the product works, if it didn't we would never get the kinds of positive posts that we get here which are made by the vast majority of those who install it.
This is of course your decision, and we respect whatever you choose to do, it's your vehicle and you're the one who has to be happy with it.
There comes a point where you just won't know unless you try it, that's the ultimate truth of the matter. Most people can see from the fact that the vast majority of people are very happy with their Superchips that it works. If it didn't, you'd never see those positive posts that have dominated this section of these message boards for the past couple of years, I can't think of a better possible track record of performance.
What you might want to do is to give us a call and talk to a "real human being" about this in detail, so you'll have a good feel for what you should expect from the Superchip, and you can then give it some more thought and see if you'd like to give it a try at some point.
We wish you all the best, whatever you decide.

I'd like to interject here that some of the people that have been making the acuzations that they don't work like Rand posted some threads late February and early March just raving about the Superchip. (You can look these up in the archives) I don't understand what made him do a 180 and all of a sudden is unhappy with it. It could be his constant changing grades and brands of fuel and yanking the chip in and out probably has his computer more confused than a Florida voter. The only reason I haven't ordered one yet is my lease is up in May and may opt to go for a newer truck if I can get financing and payment I'm confortable with.

I'll throw in my 2 cents. I'm a guy with a big family cruisen SUV that lives in nice house in the 'burbs who's wife drives a Volvo now after 14 years in about 10 different MB's. We're a typical "pushin 40" conservative family.
Now, I do have a hanckeren for a little taste of my late teens and early 20's racing on the street and doing all kinds of stupid things in cars. I can't convince myself that buying a muscle car from my past is very wise and something like an L just isn't practical for us.
I've had the chip in my Expy for about a month and am on my 3rd tank of gas with it. I'm seeing a solid 3 MPG improvement but I'm also focusing a little more on the MPG and driving a little more conservativly, most of the time. I was never able to get 16 MPG or better out of it on any kind of day in any kind of driving condition.
Now for what the chip is actually designed for. I don't smoke the tires like some guys here claim to do after the chip, but then again, I've got 5200 lbs sitting on 275x60x17 marshmellows (stock General Grabbers) with a 3:55 limited slip rear. Nontheless, my Expy is a blast to drive now. It's stronger, more responsive and I don't take crap from anything. Well, I haven't chance to bone up to a 32 valve Nav yet, but since I'm surrounded by them, I'm working on it. A 16 valve Nav is lunch though. Mine shifts great now, doesn't hunt and slide in and out of OD when I'm under moderate acceleration on the highway anymore, and when I come out of a toll booth, if I want to, I go first, period!!!
So, Mike has said it before and I think it's a great description, the chip makes driving much more enjoyable. I happen to be one of the lucky ones that is also getting great MPG.
The chip is well worth it.
Now for my warm milk and off to bed I go. I've got an exhaust system to install in the morning!!

Moose-man,
Why don't you try some of the other chips since they offer a 30-day money back guarantee (unconditionaly). Even if you like the chip and just so happens your short on money the next month, they will still take it back and give you a refund. That shows confidence in a product to me.

Bill,
If you notice the date on the original post, you'll find that this is an an older thread. At that time, there were a few other threads that related to this one, which is why I asked if the dyno plots were available - this would have cleared up any confusion that some may have had.
I was thinking about this yesterday again - thus the reason for bringing this thread back to the top.

Hi again, Venom!
They've been doing some work on their dyno, some software changes from the manufacturer to give them some different functions they want with regards to more different types of plots they can get, and I just spoke to them about this a few days ago to see what status is. They can of course get a number of different basic hp & torque plots as they always have, but like any manufacturer things are always changing, and so right now they're implementing changes to get more different types of data, and they're in the midst of all that right now.
As soon as they've got the changes made as planned for the dyno, they'll be sending us current plots as they are made, as they can get access to bone-stock F-150's for strict before & after plots.
We need very specific types of plots, meaning, done on bone-stock F-150's before & after, and that doesn't happen very often, as most of the vehicles coming into the development facility by their owners have substantial modifications, that is something that has always been true over the years, so only a small percentage of the vehicles coming in are bone-stock, so they can get a before & after on an otherwise bone-stock vehicle. It's been enough over the years to get them tuned for their owners of course, but longer access is needed to get all the types of dyno plots that people now want to see. Superchips is very different from other chipmakers in this regard, as they do so many different types of vehicles (currently well over 9000 different applications), that traditionally they have to split R&D sessions over weeks & even months sometimes, as they can get access to each different type of vehicle. It is not possible to purchase new vehicles each year for even 1/100th of the different vehicle types they do, so they have to rely on vehicle owners allowing them access to each new vehicle. And that has worked pretty well over the years in terms of being able to correctly tune all these vehicles, but in terms of having ready access to all the different varieties of bone-stock vehicles each model year, that's tougher thing to get, given the state of the majority of vehicles that come into the facility.
So what we've discussed with them, in order to get steady access to bone-stock vehicles that must be used for before & after types of plots that people want to see, is to start making arrangements to rent new F-150's for an extended period of time, so they can get all the R&D done in one shot by having access to brand new bone-stock F-150 for weeks at a time, so that anytime the dyno is freed up, they can be brought back in immediately, instead of having to once again wait for another owner of the exact bone-stock vehicle & code they're looking to complete. This may sound like a simple task, but it's not. With as heavy as their R&D schedule is, with as many different vehicle types as they do, and having to deal with the demand for their services for racing season and other manufacturers, such as the various manufacturers of superchargers, mass airflow meters, and all the other relationships they have, it's quite a deal to get all this scheduled in differently from how they normally do, which is as vehicle owners, both private and business, make those bone-stock vehicles available.
They've agreed that they want to do this for the F-150 owners, no question about it, they recognize just how many F-150 owners love their Superchips and are enjoying the product, and they recognize this desire to see these plots. So as soon as all of this can be worked out, we'll start seeing those results.
So as soon as the dyno changes they are currently implementing are done, we'll start soliciting owners of bone-stock F-150's to get their vehicles into the developement facility to get some plots, and then as time goes on, and with each new model year they'll be renting F-150's for long enough periods of time to get all that work done each model year on a consistent basis, that is their goal.
