Question for Mike T.
I have a 2000 V6. I just had a set of 4.10 gears installed and I have a superchip, but it is not calibrated for the new gears yet. The truck doesnt seem any quicker and shifts way early(I'm in overdrive at about 35 to 40 mph)My question is: Will the recalibrated chip fix the shift points so that the truck stays in its gear longer? Thus the motor can build up power before shifting into the next gear? Please help I just spent alot of money and dont have anything to show. Thanks for all and any replies.
Hi Musick76,
Your second sentence says it all, the chip is not programmed for the 4.10 gears, so your shift points are of course going to be off until you have the correct custom programming done to put all that back into line. Until that is done, it's going to upshift way too soon, and consequently you'll never have a true & accurate idea as to just what the Superchip has done for your performance, as the engine isn't turning enough rpms for you to see the exact back-to-back difference to make a valid comparison. However, as long as you feed it the required high quality 92 or higher octane gasoline (no BP, Exxon, or "off-brands"), there is no way that it cannot make it's solid power gains. This is a very basic issue of the shift points being way off because of the 4.10 gearing change that has not been compensated for, and this has nothing to do with the engine itself per se, as it's never getting a chance to show it's stuff, so to speak.
If you'd like to go over this, just give us a call, and we'll be happy to go over all of this with you in detail, ok? This shouldn't be hard to take care of.
