Question for Mike T
Mike,
My daily drive is thru a lot of traffic, stop and go. I've noticed that after I clear my computer my chip seems to work better with firmer shifts and better acceleration. After about 400 miles it seems to lose its edge with softer shifts and a little less power on acceleration. Same brand and grade of gas. My question is does it hurt to reset the computer every couple of tanks of gas? Thanks.

Hi War Eagle,
No, it won't hurt a thing, but I wouldn't keep doing that myself, as I prefer to have the adaptive strategy keep on making it's very subtle adjustments over the long haul. Then when I want to gain back the approximately 2% power loss that can come as a result of being driven conservatively most of the time and firmer shifting, I just give it a few full-throttle bursts, and that does the trick.
When you do a reset and clear the computer like you're doing, what happens is you begin the adaptive strategy adjustments from scratch again, which take about 350-500 miles to make the basic fuel curve adjustments, so you won't get your absolute best fuel mileage like that, but this is of course up to you.
Me personally, I prefer not to do those frequent resets, but that's just me, many guys prefer to do what you're doing, and that works fine too.
