Question for mike
Hi Jarret,
First, whoever you are, while we want to do anything we can to make you happy, if you have a complaint with us, you have our contact information, so please, contact *us*, it's really very simple. If you have a problem with a tool you bought at Sears, you don't go complain to a web site to get it resolved, you contact Sears!
The Webmaster here has a strict policy of having communications that are of a nature that are between Vendor & customer (for example, pricing issues, involved technical issues, refunds, etc.) be kept between Vendor & customer instead of here on the F-150 Online message boards, so please, we ask that you try to remember that this is the F-150 Online public web site, not the Performance Products "complaint department" or "refund center" or "dispute resolution web site", ok?
We do of course try to provide answers to questions and whatever help we can reasonably provide here given the medium, but this is not our web site, so anytime you have a problem or want to communicate anything that is between Vendor & customer in nature, whether it's with us or any other Vendor, please contact the Vendor (in this case, us), instead of posting it here on the boards, as posting here will not get anything like that resolved, obviously, it's nothing more than you venting your anger. We have no idea who you are, and that aside, this simply is not the place, nor the way to get this resolved.
Neither of the people you spoke to have been involved with the on-going R&D project of getting the speedo calibrations done for both gear ratio changes and for tire size changes in these F-150's, so they don't have that specific information, and that probably comes as a bit of a surprise to you, but many functions are highly compartmentalized, with specific engineers & technicians doing specific types of work. In fact, you cannot even get access to the engineer doing that work, that person can't take phone calls from individuals. The bottom line is, you do not have correct information on this, and had you contacted us after speaking to them, we'd have been happy to fill you in correctly. We have in fact done these speedometer calibrations for many other F-150 owners who have done gear ratio changes, tire size changes, you name it. And it's all done on a code-by-code basis, as Superchips has vehicles come into their development facility that need that type of work, so they can do the R&D as needed. And as time goes by, we get more and more for those codes done. That has been going on for quite some time now, and still is. Superchips has a number of people working for them, in several locations, so not everyone knows all the specifics of each of their over 9000 different applications.
We did have a few customers last year who needed speedo corrections done, and were told that yes, we could to that, as that is what we were told at the time. And we found out shortly afterwards on some of the newest codes at that time, that Ford had changed how that is done in the ECU's program, meaning it's done differently in different codes, etc. So there are a few people that have been waiting for us to get those calibrations done, all of whom have always had the option of being refunded any custom programming fees instead of waiting. So if you want a refund, we don't have a problem with that, all you need to do is, CONTACT US.
So I would suggest that you cool off a bit and regain your perspective, and then give *us* a call, and we'll be more than happy to go over this with you.
We wish you all the best,

mike,
It is not my intention to air dirty laundry on this site but I think others would like to know that there are some snags in the speedo correction program.I was under the impression that this is what this site is for.
I spoke to Al who if I am not mistaken is a representative of Superchips Inc. He gave me this info after supposedly talking to engineering about this matter. If I have incorrect info than whose fault is that? Can you give me some info that shows otherwise?
It seems to me that if someone says one bad thing about Superchips you instantly circle the wagons and start taking personal shots at people and try to discredit their information source.
When I wrote this post I was not taking any personal shots at you or your company. I do not need to "COOL OFF AND REGAIN MY PERSPECTIVE" I was just trying to to get some conflicting info cleared up which I still have not gotten. When we spoke on tues.2/27/01 you told me that you were hoping for a solution in a couple of weeks, is this the case? If not than fine, I just want a straight and honest answer without the salesman rhetoric or the personal attacks.
Finally, I am not interested in a refund unless you tell me that a fix is not possible. I have been waiting for a year for this program and will continue to wait as long as I can be assured that someone is working to solve old problems before starting on new ones.

Hey, Mike
I just got off the phone with both Al and Ken at Superchips and was told that they are no closer to having a speedometer program done for gear changes than they were several months ago and infact they had stopped working on that program all together and have been focusing on the Lightning program.(which they were happy to tell me is done)
I was hoping you could give me some info on what is actually going on with my custom program. I know that when we spoke on the phone on tuesday you told me that you were hopeful the progran could be done within a few weeks.I am not trying to rush anyone but I have been waiting for this program for a year and for you to tell me that it is being worked on and for Superchips to tell me that we are at a stand still with no new progress leaves me with a less than satisified feeling to say the least.
I guess I am at the point where if I cant get some answers as to what is going on and when I will have the complete program that I paid for I will want the $125.00 custom program fee refunded to me.
I am very happy with the chip but I guess if there is no fix in the near future I would rather have the money in my account and not someone elses.
Just to refresh your memory:
This program is for a 99 F-150 4x4 with a 4.6 auto. I changed from 3.55 gearing to 4.10s computer code ZJP2

Peter, (now that I know who you are)
I don't know where you've been, but it's no secret that the issue of calibrating speedometers in 1999 & newer FoMoCo's is a very hot topic here, because it's something that everyone is very far behind on, including Ford Motor Company themselves, as even their own dealerships cannot do these calibrations for anything other than wheel & tire sizes, and gear ratios by the way, that are offered by the factory on that same vehicle. We have heard reports of a few dealerships having other specialized equipment with the ability to do more adjustment, but haven't run across one ourselves. The point being, it's a big problem area for these Ford vehicles, and one that affects many people here, obviously, as well as yourself, and one that is discussed right here almost daily, time after time after time.
It's also no secret that we are further ahead than anyone else in the performance chip industry in this regard, but that doesn't change the fact that there are vehicles and codes in some vehicles that we cannot do reliably yet, and that R&D will continue to go on, just as we have discussed, vehicle by vehicle, code by code, it's the only way to get it done correctly. Which is exactly what we tell *everyone*.
The point being, your claim that you posted this here because you feel that people need to know there is a problem with doing them, and that we're "circling the wagons" in defense doesn't make much sense when you consider how long and how often this has been discussed by us right here, which is almost every day in some thread here. Perhaps you just don't come by and read those posts often, I don't know.
To make it even clearer, we've never said that we have this ability on all vehicles, and we've always been extremely candid about that. Further, we've mentioned a number of times that we have a few people that we previously attempted this type of change on, that it didn't work for them, and they're waiting as a result as well, and those 3 other people basically experienced the same thing that you did with us: having requested speedo recalibrations for a few vehicles/codes where Ford had literally just changed their methods of controlling this, unbeknownst to us until we sent those programs, and got the results we did, which of course didn't achieve speedometer accuracy, no doubt about it. Without having access to your vehicle at that time, we just had no way of knowing this. In fact, we've been thru, at last count, 5 different programs in an attempt to try and do that without access to the vehicle, at which point you were told by me personally that it could only be solved by painstaking R&D, vehicle by vehicle, code by code. When you originally asked us if we could do that, we did indeed tell you yes, Superchips felt they could, and so we proceeded based on that. Superchips had been doing R&D on that and had found a couple of methods that were being used for some time, and got accurate results in a number of these vehicles, and thus felt they had that taken care of for a number of these vehicles. Unfortunately, the codes in the total of 4 vehicles whose owners are basically in your same situation with us used then-brand-new and of course far different methods, and so we got the results we did. And in each case, we tried doing a few different things for each of these 4 owners, as we did with you, in an effort to see if we could get a good result without having access to the vehicle; something that is difficult to accomplish sometimes, and it just didn't work. And in each case, just like you, each customer was offered their choice of a refund or they could choose to just wait until we got it done for their code, at their option. In the interim, 2 of these other owners codes have been done, a third traded in his vehicle, and right now, you are the last.
All of this and more has been discussed countless times right here Peter. We don't claim to be perfect, and you seem to have the mistaken impression that we don't want anyone to know when we're done something that didn't work, etc., when in fact, you'd be hard pressed to find a more candid company, frankly, that's exactly why we're here every day, discussing, sharing, learning, etc. If you want to discuss this further with me, you can pick up the phone, this is the last time that we're going to hash this all over here on the boards, as it simply isn't appropriate, as has been explained to you.
Besides, we just don't have the time to type all this out here, you see, we're far too busy circling our wagons.
By the way, that's a joke Peter, I'm trying to get you to lighten up and call us like you should, so we can discuss this in detail as I think we need to, so you will understand fully, and then you can of course think whatever you like. There's a large part of me that, at this moment, would love nothing better than to issue you a refund and say goodbye to you, and we're more than happy to do that, anytime. But I'm the kinda guy that feels a need to make sure people have a thorough and correct understanding, and you don't right now; it's no fault of yours, as there are facts that you are simply not aware of, which we need to go over, and then a much better understanding will easily be accomplished by us talking over the phone. Call us collect if you like, we're here Monday thru Friday from 10 am to 7 pm, Eastern time.
Have a great weekend,
