Thumbs up A Lesson in Service

I have been a Customer Service professional for the better part of my career. Given this, I have always admired people who can consistently offer exceptional service. After reading the various posts about Mike Troyer at Performance Products, I obviously had a great opinion of the man. I had the opportunity today to speak with him first hand as I ordered my new Superchip -- you will all be glad to know that he is everything the posts make him out to be. He is a first rate professional who obviously has the best interest of the customer in mind. A small example of this was when I wanted to order UPS-Blue to get my chip by the weekend and, given the proximity of our locations, he indicated that Ground would be just as quick.

Thanks Mike for showing us all that there are still some people out there who truly enjoy others out.

Hi Cyclone, (& rockycarl!)

Thanks for your kind words, they make all our efforts worthwhile.

Now let's hope we steered you right by suggesting saving a few bucks and going Ground instead of Blue, and hope it gets there by the weekend as our UPS Ground service charts tell us; otherwise, I'm going to have egg all over my face!

Uh-oh! Just heard on the news that a ground UPS driver was held-up by two unsavory characters. One was pointing a solder gun and the other had some chip blueprints. The only thing they took was a Superchips package! They made their escape in a late model Chevy pickup. They peeled out as fast as they could which apparently wasn't very fast as the UPS driver was able to run alongside, banging on the door, for the first quarter mile.

Yes!!!! Way to go Mike! As indicated by Mike, my Chip arrived today two days after placing the order (Ground, no less). Being a patient person, as soon as I saw the package I rushed outside to remove the computer so that I could take my time this evening cleaning the contacts. Oh yeah, did I mention that we got 5" of snow today and I went out at 7:00pm (pitch black) in 28 degree temperature with a 18 degree windchill? I never claimed to be intelligent

What I found was quite strange... there was absolutely no room behind the battery to get anything down to the harness(barring my 6 year old daughter's hands). Above the wiring harness are what appear to be two solenoids. This normally would not seem odd to me except for the fact that I thought these were only present with the Off Road package... Although I have a 4x4, I did not purchase this option. Any ideas?

After seeing this, and starting to lose feeling in my hands, I decided to wait until morning to remove the battery and get the computer.

It feels just like Christmas eve only worse... I have my new toy but can't play with it yet

Anyway, thanks again Mike for the great service. I'll let you know how it turns out.

Hi cyclone,

They are the engage / disengage solenoids for the 4x4 system. I assume you have the dash swithch and not the floor lever.

Thanks for the info S-76! You are correct -- I have the dash mounted switch.

Hi Cyclone,

You don't *have* to have the Offroad package to have components mounted there on the firewall just above the wiring harness behind the battery. Not all 4X4's have those situated right there in the way of the harness, though all with the Offroad package *will* have either those solenoids or some other components located right there, so that's why we mention that in our additional documentation. With those solenoids there, you will need to either remove the battery and it's tray to gain access to that harness, or use a long extension with a swivel socket.

Sorry you weren't able to get it done immediately, but given the weather at the time (we got about 5 inches of snow that same day too!), I think you did the smart thing by not trying to rush it, good for you!

Well, at least it got there on time, so I didn't get egg on my face after all!

You aren't the only one who goes and works on their truck at odd hours in the freezing weather. I was out putting spark plugs in at 12 am when it was about 15°F a cople weeks ago. A few weeks before that I was out putting a remote start/keyless entry system in at 10 am when it was even colder out.

Well, I got it installed yesterday. After I removed the battery and tray, it was not difficult at all. The install took about 60 minutes for the whole process with the largest part of that coming from me trying to get every last bit of coating off the contacts. I think the extra time on the contacts was worth it since the the truck fired up on the first attempt and I have had a smile ever since (thanks for all of the helpful hints on cleaning these Mike).

I can now validate what so many people on this board have already said -- low end torque and shift improvements can be "felt" immediately. I am extremely happy with my purchase.

I also want to send out one final thanks to Mike for being so extremely helpful over the phone during the initial sale. He is truly one of the "good ones".

King James: Thanks for your reply... It is nice to know that I am not alone. Nice truck by the way.

Thumbs up

I posted this at: https://www.f150online.com/f150board...ML/001493.html but didn't mention the "Distributor". That, of course, would be the company that Mike T. works for, Performance Products, Inc. I'm not sure if Mike had a hand in this or not, but it was pleasantly surprising...

============my story===============

"Are they worth it? Dunno, I received, tried to install, but guess what? I am lucky enough to have the "solder" problem.
...but let me tell you about service (I am not being paid by Superchips or their distributors)...

I called the distributor and basically I have to send Superchips my computer and the superchip. They will make the modifications and overnight the computer and chip back to me.
Well, what do I do without transportation in the meantime? The answer from distributor: "We certainly understand and apologize for the inconvenience, so...we are willing to pay for 1/2 of your rental costs while you are without your truck."

HOLY SMOKES...all this for $200.+ product? I'm still not sure on how the thing works just yet, but if it works as well as the customer service...I'M SOLD!"

===============================

I think that's 'nuff said. I'm disabling my vehicle this weekend for a few days during the "change" (sounds so menopausal). I don't need to take them up on the rental reimbursement, but boy-oh-boy, what a statement to excellent service!

G'Luck
