It's now Tuesday morning. I've just returned from the muffler shop. Nothing wrong with the cat. My truck continues to run rich, has less power than before, and sucks gas. All signs after months of frustration and trying/testing everything, point to the Superchip. I had obtained an RA from Superchips a while back, but didn't use it. I will call them this am and obtain another RA. Btw, the truck was on the scanner this am & no problems were found. My friend, on recommendation from me, installed a Superchip in his 2000 Mustang V6. The improvement was immediate. His car runs much better and his mileage has gone up. I just wish this were true for me. No one wants the Superchip to work more than me. Stay tuned for the next chapter in this ongoing saga...Mark

I NEVER said anything about increased power. My truck hasn't run good since I put the chip in. My best mileage previously was 19.59, on mid grade, before installing the chip. I continue to struggle with a rich condition which DID NOT exist before the chip was installed. I spoke with Charlie at Superchips this morning, told him what was happening and he advised me to pull chip and see what happens. Which I've done. He further said, "If rich condition stops, call for an RA". Mike, why you refuse to admit that something could be wrong with the chip, is beyond me. Your personal attacks on me on the phone, and here on the boards are reprehensible. I've worked in Sales for many years, and I don't make a living insulting customers. Before I installed the chip, my truck "yes, I had another problem" ran better than new. Most of my 110,000+ miles are highway, and I make adjustments in my calculations for tire size. So stop with your bleeping nonsense. Superchips are made by humans Mike, and humans make MISTAKES. You have my phone number and I expect an apology for your behavior...Mark

Well Mark, there are many other 1997 F-150 vehicles running that exact same code you have with no such issues, and you've posted many different things here over the past 4 months about this well over 100,000 mile vehicle, as well as told me different things over the phone. You clearly mentioned the power gain from the Superchip here on the boards, & mentioned that fuel quality made a noticeable difference in the performance. You were very positive in the Superchip's increased performance back in October & November, and in fact we had an extended discussion in that thread, which was about fuel quality, where you posted noticeable differences in performance from changing brands of gasoline, once you stopped using the cheap stuff, and you raved about the performance of the Superchip back then, remember? You even went so far as to post in that thread to everyone to make sure and use good quality fuel, as you had personally experienced what happened when trying to use the cheapest gasolines, and that your performance was noticeably better when you stopped using those cheap fuels. Those posts are all still right here in the archives, Mark.
Then you got on this kick of mileage, and complained because you said the mileage was 17.76 mpg with the Superchip, while you said you got a best-ever of 18.0 mpg at some point before installing it, and you were changing and trying a bunch of different things in an effort to try and get back up to 18 mpg. The whole time we told you that was pointless, due to variances in energy content from one brand of fuel to the next, as well as even in the same brand from one refinery run to the next, to say nothing of the fact that this is a vehicle with well over 100,000 miles on it.
Then when you first started tantalizing here with these "stay tuned" posts, you called me & said first you had figured this out but you didn't want anyone to know about it, to which we agreed until you had this "nailed down" to quote you, and in those conversations you said it was the Amsoil fuel additive that you were using, and that you were making mistakes in how much of that concentration you added to the gas, and that your mileage was coming back up consistently as you reduced the amount of Amsoil gasoline additive you put in the tank. That was the last we ever heard from you.
Then you showed back up here with more of the "stay tuned" posts again, and this time it was supposed to be the catalytic converter was clogged and thus it was supposed to be the culprit.
Now you're saying the Superchip is causing it to run richer, but the Superchip does *not* richen up the fuel curves, they are very precisely calibrated for the burn rate of premium gasoline, and are not any "richer" in terms of the A/F ratios, in fact, they are slighter leaner than stock, so running richer with the Superchip is impossible, all else being equal.
I also see from your signature line that you have installed considerably larger tires, and of course taller tires will cause you to lose mileage, especially coupled with those tall 3.08 gears.
Of course we're always happy to check that Superchip for you, but I rather doubt after all this that we're going to find anything wrong with it. Since the vehicle starts and runs normally according to everything you've told me personally, I think it's working just fine from our conversations; you have stated that the power gain was obvious, especially when you stopped using the cheap gas. The performance has always been there according to everything you've told us. I think we're just dealing with a high-mileage vehicle that perhaps needs some normal routine maintenance, but of course we're always happy to check the Superchip for proper operation.
So I guess everyone should stay tuned for the next saga?
