Chip vs MPG???
I have a buddy that has a jet chip in a 96 Chevy 1500, (I know, bad choice!), with a K&N intake and dual pipe. (No other mods) He gets terrible MPG. Something like 7-10 MPG, he claims. He said it all went down hill after the chip. Power went through the roof, mileage through the floor. I just bought a 98 F150 ex cab 4.6 2wd. I have put a K&N on it and soon to have pipes. Will a chip FLOOR my mileage?
That's a big NO!! I've had a chip on my last F150 and now on my F250. Both trucks got/get very good fuel milage. Now I have found that due to a bad case of lead-foot-itest, that with a chip, I tend to hot-rod just a bit more than normal. This will lower your milage. But when you get used to all that new power, most of us tend to start driving like sane people again

Hi dmblisten,
Jet uses this "gimmick" where they will call one chip or inline module device a "Stage 1", and another a "Stage 2", especially in their GM applications, that is supposed to be for use only off-road. Many times people will order those so-called "Stage 2" versions for use on the street, and they pour on a ton (relatively speaking, of course) of extra fuel, and *that* is normally when we see mileage go into the toilet with those Jet chips and inline modules. So perhaps that is what your friend did, and if so, that could easily explain his mileage drop.
The other possibility is that he's driving it harder now with the Jet unit in it than he did before, that happens sometimes, just from the novelty of having fun with a new hot-rod part, and of course that will cause mileage to drop.
The Superchip has the potential to give a small improvement in gas mileage, thanks to it's part-throttle tuning, so a lot of people do see small improvement in gas mileage with the Superchip, somewhere in the 1.5-2.0 mpg range when cruising on average, among those who see a gain there. And of course, some people see no mileage gain, the results will depend on 2 basic factors, how the vehicle is driven, and the energy content of the fuel being burned. Of course, if you drive it harder to begin with, as some people do when checking out the new performance levels, then your mileage could drop, but should come back up after your driving returns to normal.
If you'd like to go over this in more de feel free to give us a shout, our contact info is below.
Good luck with your truck!
