Question A question about a Superchip

I recently had a buddy who had a superchip in his explorer that he sold. He took it out before he sold it, and I thought I would get it reprogrammed for the f-150. Took it to the local superchip dealer. He couldn't reprogram the thing. He said he didn't know why, but the computer gave him an error. He said the chip was a version 2.0 but his new chip was like a 3.x. Any ideas about this? The guy really didn't know why it wasn't working. The error he got was something like "Error - Module is V5". Any help is appriciated.

Hi JimbocO,

This is very easy, that message says it all.

That Superchip is an older design unit, and you're never going to be able to program it for anything other than the original vehicle file size. It may not even be a flash module at all, Superchips went to a flash design about 4-5 years ago, roughly.

There are also differences in file sizes in these vehicles, and those older modules, if they were originally programmed to the smaller file size, could never be reprogrammed to the larger file size, hence the message about it being a V5 module, all of which can only hold the smallest file size.

Unless you can find another Explorer with the exact same computer code to use that old Superchip on, it's basically a paperweight now, so if you want a Superchip for your vehicle, you need to buy a new unit.

Good luck!
