Put My Chip In!
Hey all,
I just got back from the initial test drive (about an hours worth), and the first thing I have to do is thank everybody who responded to all of my questions about the chip. It's awsome. The truck now comes out of the hole with authority. The first couple of times I took off, I started to turn the tires over and had to back out of it. The shift changes are great and the tranny doesn't lag going into drive or overdrive anymore. For everybody considering a chip, I think it's a must have.
For Rand and whoever that other guy is that is giving Mike T. a bad time, I have a couple of things to say to you. First off, who cares about dyno results? My truck has never been on a dyno and probably never will be. The seat of the pants feeling I got was good enough to tell me the chip definitely does what it's supposed to. I could care less whether I gained 26 hp or 6 hp, I am getting better performance now than I did, and the money I spent on the chip was well spent. Thanks again to everybody and sorry about the long post, but, I'm excited.

Hi Lok,
Glad to hear you're enjoying it, the vast majority always do.
If it only gave 6 hp, it's doubtful that you could even feel the difference of another 6 hp in a 2-ton+ truck, that usually takes a good 15+ hp to really be able to feel, from our experience.
We're glad you're happy, & thanks for your post!
Have fun,

hmm... i must say of all the topics ive been reading it seems that people with 97 trucks have the best results with the superchip.
Perhaps due to ****ty Oem programming?

Well i supose IF you gained only 1 hp then by your logic it was worth it and the money was well spent since you will NEVER dyno your truck. None the less im happy it works for you. Im just being objective im not taking or bashing sides.

moose-man,
I know you said you're not trying to bash or take sides, but you did call me an idiot. It's a little hard not to take offense to that. I, like alot of other people here, will never have my truck on a dyno. All I care about is having the power to do the things I need to do. I can tell by driving my truck that I have that power, and the chip improved that. Why do I need a dyno to tell me how much I've got. The only time I ever got hung up on horsepower it was with my Chevelle SS. Even then it didn't do me any good because if I got beat by another car, I couldn't say "I dyno'd out at 500 horses. You shouldn't have beaten me." If people want to put their vehicles on dynos, let them. I just don't see where everybody is getting hung up. As for the power increase, again, I don't care how much horsepower I gained, I know by driving that the chip works. You run what you brung nothing else matters. Please don't call me an idiot again.

"Why do I need a dyno to tell me how much I've got. "
Well lets say just for example you got only 1 horse power increase out of the superchip and mearly what you THINK you are feeling an increase in power for example lets say is the transmission shifts.
My point being is that a dyno can tell you just how much your power was increased. And that is important becuase you need to know your getting what you shelled your hard earned dollar for. Weather it be 6 horsepower or 26 horsepower,
maybe your truck didnt increase power at all maybe just the transmission shifts are there and the little adjustment to the tourqe converter and maybe the world will explode tomorrow!
Look all im saying is thats a very stupid and closed minded thing to say that dyno testing isnt important. If is was not you could buy any chip out there and just say "HEY I PAID 225 bucks and it works i can really feel it" when its all in your head.
None the less.... if it works for you im glad and hopefully ill decide to purchase on myself someday.

Hi Moose-man,
Just to clarify here, it doesn't make an appreciable difference whether the F-150 is a 2001 or a 1997, the Superchip does the same basic thing for all of them, as they've always been tuned the same from the factory. Meaning, all of the 4.2 V-6's respond about the same regardless of model year, etc.
Now once you get up to the 1999 5.4 which was bumped up to 260 hp from the previous peak of 235, then you pick up a little bit more power, another 1-2 horsepower more than what the 235 hp versions of the 5.4 gained from the Superchip simply because it started off with more stock, but all of these V-8's are tuned exactly the same from the factory from a power standpoint, for the use of 85-87 octane gasoline, and they all see the same approximate power gains in terms of a percentage from the Superchip. Now the 4.2 V-6 picks up a little bit more percentage wise, perhaps another 1%-2%, simply because the V-6 factory programs have always been a bit more conservative comparted to the V-8 programs, but again, we're talking very small differences. That aside, there isn't an appreciable difference in the *percentage* of power gain from the Superchip whether it's a 1997 4.6 or a 2001 5.4 F-150. In round numbers, what anyone can expect is the vehicle to feel like it's about 10% stronger, is a simple way to put it.
I also think you're missing Lok's point, as well as wasting time by rudely calling him an idiot, that only serves to inflame and insult, and I'm sure you wouldn't like it, either.
What he said was simply that he can tell from the very obvious seat of the pants gain that the Superchip is working; and it doesn't take a rocket scientist to know that you don't get a seat of the pants result like that from gaining 5 or 10 horsepower in a 2-ton+ pickup truck. Neither Lok nor most other people are so ignorant that they can't tell the difference between a power gain all the time or a power gain only during an upshift.
I love dyno's too, it's always nice to get a good accurate reading of power being made. However, the fact that he isn't going on the dyno does not in any way negate his results with the Superchip, or the fact that he can tell that there is an obvious power gain. That is what he cares about, and that is what matters to him, he's made that very clear, I'd say. He's not trying to say that dyno pulls aren't worthwhile, just that he's happy with the obvious power gains that he can feel from the Superchip, and he isn't going on the dyno, that's all.
At least, that's my take on it........

Lok N Load,
I agree with you 100%. The "seat of the pants" is a very accurate assessment.I have had my Superchip for a year now and couldn't be happier. Compared to before, this truck drives like a GT F150 LOL.. I love the way it shifts.
Now... I am in no way bashing a dyno run.I enjoy reading all the info posted here about dyno runs. But I don't need to pay $100.+ to find out what I already know. If I did I would definitely feel that in the "seat of the pants".

Hi e mac,
Just curious, how do you like that Hellwig rear sway bar, did it help the handling noticeably since you have the towing package? Did you change the front sway bar too, or just add the rear unit? Thanks!
