??? for the Sultan of Speed, the guru of guru's...Mike

Hi Mike...

John from NC,the retired cop. I bought a chip for my HD about a 1 1/2 mos ago....

Well the red face is for..chip not insalled as of yet... Just recently got out of hosp for a pulmonary embolism..(From that grrr!!
!@#$%^&* gun shot wound when a cop)

Seeing my Dr's have severely limited my ability to work on my truck.. for about another 2 mos...(Had a filer placed in aorta to block the clots) and having recently moved here 5 mos ago and don't have a clue on good mechanics Might you have a Vendor in the Greenboro, High Point or Winston-Salem area that might assist me in putting it in???

Also, make a comparison...Airaid system vs. K/N...Which is better??? Do these systems make only one application for my HD 5.4 ???

Hey Dude !!! Hope you and yours had a safe and happy holiday and will have many more !!!! What state is your Co. in ?? sorry forgot

Catchya....John

If you need a hand, let me know. I'm no mechanic, but I can throw parts around w/ the best of them. Except for soldering (Mike knows what I mean!!), I had little or no trouble w/ my Superchip. Doc

Hi John,

I'm so sorry to hear you went through all that, especially during the Christmas Holidays, I hope this works out for you perfectly in the end, to say the least. And we're in Virginia, by the way. https://www.f150online.com/f150board/smile.gif

Since Doc has been kind enough to offer his services, that might be a good idea, that's very kind of him to offer to help, & he's a very nice gentleman, we've had the pleasure of speaking a number of times. In fact, we still "owe" him a speedo calibration for his code as soon as we have that done for his code. https://www.f150online.com/f150board/smile.gif

Now with regards to choosing between the K&N FIPK kit and the Airaid brand, either one costs the same and will get you the same power gains, 14 hp on the 5.4 motor. I like the Airaid's mounting system a little bit better, that's the only operational aspect to me, and then from an appearance standpoint, I like the looks of the Airaid kit. The Airaid is not 50-state emissions certified, so a lot of California customers will go with the K&N FIPK kit because of that. The K&N FIPK kit looks almost stock under the hood, it's black plastic just about matches everthing else under the hood, whereas as soon as you see the Airaid, you know it's there, so to speak. https://www.f150online.com/f150board/smile.gif

Between Airaid & K&N, I have preferred the Airaid, for those 2 reasons, the mount and how it looks. However, you really can't go wrong with either one, they're both fine kits.

I hope you feel better & can start to enjoy your new HD a bit more! https://www.f150online.com/f150board/smile.gif

Hi Screamer,

Yes, I finally did see them in that ad in your post to Rand (thanks for the laughs!), and it looks like a typical J.C. Whitney kind of gimmick. I don't remember where they came from, whether it was actually J.C. Whitney or not, but it sure looks like something they would carry, not to knock J.C. Whitney, they've been a saviour to a lot of people looking for many old parts, etc.

I don't think there's anything to it, but in all honesty, you don't know for sure until you try it. Personally, I'll pass on them. https://www.f150online.com/f150board/smile.gif

No problems on the laughs,I've got a little Raoul in my blood I guess, hehe All the controversy of late has not hindered my enjoyment of my chip just yet. I noticed Rand did not even dignify it with an answer......I was really trying to help, seriously. I have seen those types of tips on race boats, but they were what looked to be about 6 inches in dia.,and yes, that ad is straight out of J.C. Whitneys Dec. catalog........98

John and Doc, I see that you are both fairly close to me -- Albemarle. If I can be of any assistance let me know. I have installed several chips and I can also hook you up with the guys that have done my "hop-up" work if you are intersted in doing any other mods.

Hi Screamer,

Ahh, so it *was* a J.C. Whitney deal, I thought so, it has that classis J.C. look & feel to the ad. http://128.242.213.81/f150board/smile.gif

It brings back great memories for me too, as a kid I spent many an hour reading everything in their catalogs by flashlight long after "lights out". Plenty of things to fill the minds of young hot-rodders-to-be were to be found among their pages, I'll always remember them fondly.

Thanks lutwiller!!
Any specs on your ride?
Doc

lutwiller Jan 8, 2001 06:56 AM

Hi doc, I've been a little lazy on perfecting my signature, so here's what I've got:

99 EC 4x2 Flareside
Roush package
Deep Wedgewood Blue
5.4 auto
4:10 LS
PROM 80mm mass air meter
30lb injectors
Vortec supercharger producing 9psi
Superchip flipchip
Caltrac traction bars

Mark Ray Motorsports in conjunction with Custom Performance in Harrisburg are the guru's for superchargers in this area. His work has been featured countless times in Hotrod and Mustang magazines. Some of the local law enforcement have had him install blowers on the crown vics. Their work is top notch. They just competed a mustang for Gabe Wilkens--formerly of the Green Bay Packers, that produced 612hp at the rear wheels. If you want hp, these are the guys to see.
