Post Texaco premium

Filled up today with Texaco premium for 131.9 per gallon. That is the lowest it's been in a long time and I hope Bush can get it down to 1.00.

Whoa! That's better than regular around DFW.

I'm paying about 1.59 or so for premium. ;-(

You guys are lucky! Here in CA, regular is 1.69, and premium is 1.89! Those are the least expensive for 30 miles or so, and it only gets worse heading west into San Francisco.

I remember what Mr. Nixon did for fuel prices in the early 70's + the "gas lines". Anyway, I thought this was a site about our trucks. Try c-span for politics.

That was not a political statement!! Just an update due to the requirement to use premium with the Supechip. Take it easy.

Hey Redlariet,
Are you having post election coverage withdrawals? This isnt a debate, merely stating the facts. The price of gas is too high no matter what you run in your truck, period.

I miss being able to buy gas from Priceline.com. Used to save about $0.35 a gallon. Boo-Hoo, sniffle.

Hi Guys,

Actually, this thread is an excellent reminder of the oil companies pricing, as we've seen just in the past few months gas prices drop 20-50 cents a gallon in many places. Here where we are, our best premium gasolines are now running about $1.45 a gallon, with regular at anywhere from $1.28-$1.35 a gallon. The Citgo station we usually use is at $1.35 for regular and $1.45 for 93 octane premium.

Yes, we've seen crude oil prices on the open market drop a bit, but just from what we've seen this year alone, with Chicago gas prices of as high as $2.20 a gallon for premium earlier in the year and most of the major oil companies posting record profits this year on CNN Headline news, they probably can still go a bit lower, I'm guessing. It wasn't all that long ago that most brands of regular were less than $1 a gallon, staying about 98-99 cents a gallon, and premium anywhere from $1.10 to $1.20 a gallon. Of course we're basically layman and "outsiders", so we don't know the real costs, etc. for the oil companies, but it seems clear that there is room for stable gas prices and perhaps even further price drops.

At any rate, we'll all enjoy the lower prices while we've got them.

What I dont get is this:

There are at least 3 oil refineries within 40 miles of me, Shell, Tosco and Chevron to name a few. Shells premium is $2.15 a Gallon RIGHT NOW! The others are about the same as shell. I know for a fact that gas is more expensive in other cities west of me. In CA, the price is way more than most other states. WHY? The refineries dont have to transport it that far.

Oh well, I guess there is a certain amount of politics involved.
I am glad that I just changed jobs. I had a 64 mile a day commute, which has now dropped to under 3!

Our gas just went down to $1.59 for plain Jane 87 octane and $1.89 for the Super Unleaded.Seems Like Oregon always has some of the highest priced ges in the country(two years ago it had the dubious honor of having the highest year long avarage price of gas).

I drove by an Amoco last night on my way home from work...$1.17 a gallon for regular. The place was kind of crowded, so I thought I'd wait until this morning to fill 'er up. Mistake! Overnight, the price climbed to $1.31. Doh!!!

Mike, I saw that report in the USA Today about record profits. Here in Baton Rouge, we have several chemical plants and my company does buisness with Exxon. I promise you when they want or need something they have the money to get no matter what it cost. They spent 14 million just preparing for y2k at the one location here. They are so loaded and I agree with you I think the prices could be alot lower.

Around here, best price I can find for good quality Premium is $1.529, and it's dropped .15 in the past three weeks.

I have to agree with earlier posts that oil companies have no business making such obscene profits. They're making a killing from all of us, and if it's not price gouging, it's so close as to be indistinguishable. But just try and prove that!

The difference in cost in different parts of the country does have something to do with politics; we all pay the same Federal Excise Tax, but state taxes vary widely. As most gas travels to most locations by pipeline anyway, transportation costs are a small part of the total price.
