EEC-IV removal
I am trying to install a mass air conversion kit on my '93 Lightning and have come to a stand still while trying to remove my EEC-IV module. It seems as if there is not enough clearance to remove it from inside the truck. Has anyone run into this same problem? Does anyone have any suggestions? Is it possible to pull it from the engine compartment???
Hi Light93,
Welcome to F-150 Online!
The computer in the 1996 & older F-trucks is located behind the driver's kick panel, and also behind the aluminum mounting plate for the emergency brake pedal. Most of them will come out thru the cabin like that if you know the correct procedure, but you can also pull it out from under the hood.
I assume you know to disconnect the wiring harness from the front of the computer, it has a single 10mm bolt head dead-center, and you simply loosen that until the wiring harness can be detached from the front of the computer. Then you can loosen the inner fender retaining screws or bolts, and then pry the fender liner aside with a pry bar, and then you can slide the computer out from under the hood.
The computer's wiring harness is of course under the hood on the drivers side, well below the brake master cylinder. The wiring harness will look like it dead-ends into the firewall, but that is actually where it connects to the front of the computer, there is an opening in the firewall just large enough for the computer to slide thru, once you have the inner fender liner pryed out of the way.
That should get you going, & good luck!
