computer chips
I don't have a Ford pickup, but I do have a Ford Taurus SE and I'm here to tell you that I installed a superchip last month with results that were less than spectacular. The customer service that Mike Troyer gave was quite exceptional and very professional, but I'm afraid the product just didn't perform the way I had anticipated. The shifting was indeed quicker and more crisp than the stock computer programming, but the problem I had with it was it's inability to determine which gear to stay in....especially on the freeway cruising at a steady speed. It basically felt like it wanted to downshift constantly and would switch gears at strange times. I don't know if this was an abberation, but I wasn't about to risk the integrity of my drivetrain for a minor modification. I honestly couldn't recommend the product to anybody unless maybe they had a manual transmission.
Was it diffinately the superchip that caused the shifting problem or did it shift like that before the chip was installed and you were hoping the chip would correct the shifts??? Could you feel/tell that the chip gave you any extra power??? I do have a chip on my "manual" truck, so I don't get it's (chip) shift improvements. But I do get all the rest of the performance program. I would suggest that you talk w/Mike to see if your chip can be worked on to improve it's shift characteristics. Most of the time, He's able to work something out so that the customer is happy.
