Question for Mike T.
Mike, I just recieved my chip(thanks). I am installing it tomorrow. My question is seeing that I still have 3/4 tank of regular gas can I put octane boost in the tank and top it of with premium gas? Thanks EVO
Dear EVO,
No, I would NOT install it until you have that regular gas completely run out of it. Using an octane booster is not a good idea, as most of them don't actually do anything, and the few that do tend to shorten the life of your spark plugs, turning them pink & purple, etc.
Now if you happen to have a 2000 model, you could install it and perhaps not experience audible detonation, as they tend to have more total effective adjustment range in their knock sensor systems than previous model years. However, you won't see the power gains from the motor like that.
In all honesty, what I would do is simply run that tank of regular down until the fuel light comes on, and then fill up with a high-quality premium gas, and then install the Superchip for best results.
I know you're anxious to get it in, but if you do try this before getting premium gasoline, you need to be very careful to listen for sounds of detonation, also referred to as pinging, knocking, etc.
Whatever you do, do NOT dilute the little bit of premium you can now put in the tank with 3/4 tank of regular, as you won't see much of a boost in octane, nowhere near enough. Run the regular out, and *then * install it, is my suggestion. Take it out and drive it all over to run that fuel out if you have to to get it done over the weekend, but don't use octane booster or top of with premium right now.
Good luck!

evo, We all went through that pain that you are now experiencing.
"The agony of waiting for the Superchips install"
I have even heard stories of people chasing down the UPS truck hoping the chip was in there!
To prep my install, I cleaned the computer contacts and then, put my Superchips in the glove box.
I drove til fuel light came on, pulled in to Amoco (the best around here) topped off the tank, popped in the chip and peeled out of the gas station for a nice long drive to let the 'puter "learn."
My Brat was with me so we drove 30 miles one way for an icecream with her screaming "Go, Go, Gadget Ford!" at every light as we peeled off.

Hi EVO!
Somehow I just knew that by the time you read my response, you were already going to have it installed!
With the 2000 vehicles, they have more effective adjustment range in the knock sensor system, so you don't get audible detonation using regular with the Superchip, but then of course you don't get the power gain either.
Well, you might get a couple HP literally, but that's it. It will still accelerate better, due to the improved transmission tuning & removal of the transitional spark retards, etc., but you won't get the real benefit until you use premium gas of course, as that is what it was designed for. Also, you won't get as good throttle response or gas mileage if you don't use premium, as the fuel curves are tuned specifically for premium gas.
In your case, since you already installed it, I would disconnect the battery for a few minutes when you fill it up with premium, to allow the computer to go thru it's adjustment cycle anew with the Superchip now running on premium gas, to get the best immediate results. If you don't disconnect the battery, it will simply take a couple days of driving to start to feel the increased power once you use premium.
Have fun!
