Talking Small installation tip

The instructions and pictures mentioned all through this topic (by Duke are simple and very clear) I might add one thing to save some head aches, The passenger plastic kick panel does not have to be removed, while taking my computer hold down clip off I dropped the clip and it fell behind the kick panel, at first it looked like (what a bummer) but I bent and forced the kick panel off and found it. You might want to lay a rag over the top of the kick panel so if you drop the hold down clip or chip it will not fall behind the panel. It looks to me like this plastic kick panel could be cracked easily by removing it, especialy unnessarly

Hey Bubbadewsky, I did the SAME thing.... good idea! I was able to reach my finger down the kick panel and was fortunate enough to have retreived it without taking the panel off. The clip just flew right off, I didn't even have a chance....lol!

Wink

I....did the same thing today and thought I was going to have fun trying to get it out. No problem...and you are correct..the panel does not have to be pulled out.

Here is a big one if this problem occurs:

I experienced a 'no start' condition yesterday when I went to crank the truck up after it had sat all night. The truck had ran just fine the day before with the superchip. Having read everything about the superchip, I knew it was most likely a dirty contact or the computer key had failed.

Thinking my PATS key had failed..I tried another..same thing. I was eventually able to get the truck to start, but it quit running 15 seconds later. I finally pushed on the Superchip..tried again..and it started right up and ran normally. Despite having 2 pieces of '100 mph tape' (same as duct tape) the chip had evidently been ever so slightly pushed out of the socket.

So taking a closer look, I noticed the bracket that holds the computer to the truck has a rolled up edge..and the edge pushes directly against the superchip when it is installed. Once the plastic mounting clip is installed..it evidently caused enough pressure to push the superchip just enough to cause the chip to not seat properly (despite the tape).

So yesterday, I re-did the installation and removed the mounting bracket (two screws). I flattened out the rolled up edge on the bracket (where the chip sits), reinstalled everything...and have not had a single problem since...quite a few starts and test drives. It sat overnight again..no problems.

So if you experience a 'no start' situation...give this a try.

Dear Dustoff,

Good point! This hasn't come up here in quite awhile now, but there are some of those mounting brackets that have a little "lip" on them, that will tend to push the Superchip module back off of the connector. Usually you can see this interference when you reinstall the computer, as you slide it home. All that is needed is simply to push that lip out of the way so it can't push on the back of the Superchip, and that will take care of it.

Thanks for your post to remind everyone!

Thumbs up

One of the tools i have for my glass business has saved my as* many a time. I carry a telescopic magnet. If screws or cips or virtually anytiing magnet drops out of view or in a nook or cranny I throw the magnet after wave it around a few times in the hole and walla. Of course it has to be attrcted to a magnet.
