Chip Installed
The chip is installed and what can I say wow! Man what a difference in the way the transmission shifts...no slop...get out and in plain and simple! She's definetly got more umf and I like it. Have one question...though... Is there a easier way to clean the contact good? Is there something you can use to remove the laquer like acetone or is it just to dangerous......not complaining....just that part really sucked! I was so dam worried about getting everything off the contacts....This is the best spent money yet for me....yahoo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
P.S. Mike & The Gang - Thanks!

Hey Silverback, something else Mike Troyer recommends is a small ultra fine screwdriver, like the ones used to tighten or loosen the screws on sunglasses/prescription. Use it to scrape the laquer off, but be careful not to scrape too much! If you see small metal shavings coming off STOP! Also, he recommends using a Q-tip and applying rubbing alcohol.
I did this when cleaning my connectors and it works great! First I used the tiny screwdriver to scrape the laquer off.... then I used the green scuff pad that comes with the Superchip. After the laquer was all off, I used the Q-tip and rubbing alcohol to ensure that it was clean. You wanna be careful though and not get the rubbing alcohol on the board, just the connector!
I'm sure Mike will be here soon to enhance on anything I've missed. He's great and you can trust him completely!
Best of luck and congradualations on the Superchip, you'll love it!

Dear Silverback,
Lariat Ryder made some excellent suggestions, and that is exactly what I would say too. We don't like to see any kind of solvents used on that connector, as it is a PCB (platic circuit board), and solvents, especially anything with acetone in it, will attack the plastic and dissolve it! So that is why I use rubbing alcohol on a couple of Q-tips, that works well and gives good control of where that alcohol is actually applied, etc.
The newer vehicles, and especially the 2000's, tend to have thicker conformal coatings, so you have more to remove from the contacts. Years ago this coating used to be much harder, thinner, and lacquer-based, Now it is thicker, softer, and silicon-based.
As long as your vehicle starts and runs OK with the Superchip installed, you've cleaned your contacts well, as a loose general rule.

I installed my chip last Thursday. If it wasn't for the coating to remove this would maybe take 5 minutes. My truck would not start after install...a little too careful with removal of coating. Took it back out, cleaned it more, now everything is fine. I think my transmission shifts have definetly improved and some improved performance also. So far satisfied with chip. Only been in for a few days now, but can tell a difference.
Thanks for the great info!!

I thought I would ask ...I did as MT and Duke described but just was wondering if a easier way was around. The worst part was cleaning cleaning the backside contacts.Of course hey I guess nothing can be that easy....Again I am satified, man I cant believe the difference she's like a whole new vehicle....next mods K&N Filter..Nerf Bars, tow hitch and finally a Brush bumper for those tumble weeds here in SO. Dear Silverback,
You make an excellent point, and that is there is more room to work on the top of the edge connector than there is on the bottom of it, unless you remove the covers. This is exactly why we use a tiny straight-blade screwdriver to "shave" this coating off the contacts. It's very small and precise, so you have enough of room to do this even on the bottom side of the connector, without pulling the covers off the computer.

Hey guys. Just a couple of tips. I used a small flat head screwdriver to get most of the stuff off...(I did not take the computer apart, just went through the slot). After I got most of it off I used the little green sponge thing that comes with the chip. On the short side of the slot I used the screwdriver to move the sponge back and forth. I finished by wiping the contacts clean with hospital alcohol wipes. Hope this helps.
Sounds like a good technique, thanks for sharing!

Installed the chip this morning, and went for a 30-mile test run. (I made sure to fill up on 93 before I started the work).
WOWWWWWWWW! The 1st thing you notice is the transmission; much smoother shifting and no more "Granny trans"! I made a point to do some stop-and-go and highway. You can feel the power increase, especially we you step on it. All the comments are the "heavy foot" are right on; you definitely want to stomp on the sucker. Told my wife when I got back, "Honey, I'll drive anywhere you want to go this weekend!". :-)
Many thanx to Duke's installation write-up and Mike's tips. They were right on. I used a large eyeglass screwdrive to get the majority of the coating off the connector. Then, used the green scrub for go over the entire connector. Lastly, Q-Tips and rubbing alcohol to clean everything up. I had to go through this steps twice because I wasn't using enough force to scrape the connector the 1st time. Even with that, total time was an hour.
This message board, and its participants, were a tremendous resources for me. Thanx to everyone for the feedback. I'd be more than happy to answer any questions or help anyone out with their SuperChip installation.
Going to run the SuperChip by itself for a couple of weeks before installing the Airaid.
Happy Chippin'!

jmartinb......Right on!
I gave my wife the same option..that I would do all of the driving this weekend....she looked at me and said, "NO WAY!".."We'll take my car"....LOL!!!!
Oh well...I guess I will meet her at the mall and movies!!
Duke's installation write-up and Mike's tips were invaluable for sure!

An interesting development on the SuperChip front...
After my 1st test run, I went to pick up my wife from the gym, about 4 miles away. I waited about 15 minutes for her, letting the truck idle the entire time. To leave, I put the truck into "Drive" and the truck stalled. Back in park, and restarted it. Same thing happened again. A third time, and I was able to go about a mile down the road; to the on-ramp to I95. Going 50mph, the truck quit on me. I pulled it onto the shoulder, disconnected the battery (had my tools with me jut in case), and waited about 10 minutes. Reconnected the battery (which set off my alarm --ouch!) and everything was fine. I've been driving around for the last couple of hours without issue.
Mike, et al; any ideas on this one? Has anyone every experience the same thing?
