Post Question for superchip-distributor

I have a 97 with a 4.6 and a 5 Spd. Is the chip still worth getting since I have a manual transmission, since the chip raises shift points and firmnesses..Any information would help.

Thanks

Dear ad4x4ofrd,

In short, yes. The power gained by the engine is the same in terms of it's increase in peak power, whether it's a manual or an automatic. The automatics do lower their acceleration times by a couple more tenths of a second as compared to the manuals, due to improvements in shift charancteristics and removal of transitional spark retards. But overall, you'll see the same basic benefits; more power at every throttle position, and improved driveability.

There are a number of people here with manual transmissions using the Superchip, and they're happy with it too, simply because it works.

There is much more "talk" here with regards to the automatics, simply because so many people have automatics as compared to the number of owners with manuals. But the actual power gained by the engine remains virtually the same in either case. You might also want to read some of the threads here and see what owners of manuals who are using the Superchip have to say themselves.

And of course, please feel free to give us a call for more specific details.

Good luck with your truck!

Mike,

My father has a '95 F150 with the 5.8l engine and an Auto tranny. Do you have a superchip for this vehicle and what would the improvements be? MPG, HP, Torque, shift char.? Thanks

Dear tkdhoyt,

Yes, we sure do! They gain anywhere from 21-25 horsepower, and 34-40 lbs./ft. of torque. It varies a bit as the stock power rating of those motors varies a bit over the years and which body it's in, etc. The Superchip for that vehicle delivers all the same benefits that it does for the late-mdoel 97 & up F-150's. The 95 automatics are computer controlled, so it will have all the appropriate mods to transmission shift characteristics, etc.

I don't have specific feedback from other F150online participants with regards to mileage increases on that motor, but from the ones I've owned it's been comparable to the late-models; usually 1-2 more mpg when cruising under light load and not using a lot of heavy throttle. As always, it will depend on how it's operated and the local fuel quality. Please feel free to give us a shout for all the details.
