Question Superchip vs. Shift Kit

Mike and "board members":
Maybe this has been hashed and rehashed in the past, but I'm still a new user. As briefly as possible, what can a Shift Kit (e.g., Trans-Go valve body reprogramming kit) do for my new AOD that a Superchip can't? And can a Superchip be customized for personal shifting preferences? I saw where Mike's Lincoln had both a Superchip and some sort of shift kit.
Thanks,
John

Dear BEJ,

The only thing a Transgo shift kit does is mechnically modify the transmission to make more line pressure. The Superchip can add line pressure, and it also removes the upshift and downshift delays, remove the top speed limiter, and so much more. In my case, I use the Transgo kit with my Superchip just because I have a glazed clutch pack in my tranny, and it's a "band-aid" fix so I don't have to pull it out right now, basically.

John, I have a modified Superchip progam that provides more line pressure during shifting than that of the standard Superchip program. Still smooth at part throttle and very drivable, it provides a very nice alternative to installing a separate shift kit plus provides better engine performance. The cost of having a custom program is $125 above the cost of a standard the Superchip alone. When you consider the cost of a shift kit plus the replacement trans fluid, and instalation time/labor. The custom Superchip is a cost/labor effective option.

Wink

And if per some oddball of a chance you don't like it it's easy to undo.
(and send the chip to me)

That was good of Bob to provide that additional info on his custom Superchip, with the increased line pressure, and the results he's experiencing. He makes an excellent point with regards to cost effectiveness of the custom Superchip program as opposed to installing the Transgo kit. I don't mean to put Transgo down by any means, heck I use one too! But for some people, it's preferable to do all that in the Superchip, and leave the transmission mechanically stock, and still get the desired results. I use both, as I explained above.

Some say tomato, others say tomatoe.

Hmm, $125.00 for custom programming? Was that before or after you bought the chip. If it was after thats sound right.. but if they charged you $125.00 plus the cost of a regular chip you got hozed.

They will program your chip the first time around with the modifications you already have. And it was still the same price.

Just something for everyone to remember and not get ripped from
