SuperChip Shift Points?
Mike, or anyone else who might know...
I am interested in finding out if the SuperChips will change the point at which the transmission shifts, or just the firmness of the shifts? I really don't hotdog my truck that much, but it seems that when I do step on it to merge into traffic, or change lanes, the transmission feels like it stays in the lower gear way too long! Some times it actually feels like I have to take my foot off the gas momentarily before it will shift into the next higher gear. Is this normal? Will the SuperChip help this? I actually interested in seeing my truck shift into the next higher gear a little sooner than later while accelerating onto an on ramp! Thanks for your help and advise!

White Knight/Mike T,
Thanks for the info, this sounds like what I want my truck to do! I'm already running high test in my truck, so that isn't going to cause a major concern, now I just need to start saving my pennies! I'm hoping to get some cash for Christmas, so maybe I'll blow it all on a Superchip!

Pault: Read my latest Weekend project. I talk about the superchip changing the shifting points and putting you back in your seat.
I can totally understand where you are comming from as not hot ******* it.. but merging with traffic the transmission likes to slide into gear.. (yes dont so the yuppies dont spill there Crappachenio) It makes for a smooother ride.. yeah whatever.. dont buy a truck.. thats what I have to say..
Anyways.. the chip will make it shift into gear a lot harder (not damanging) but you can feel it. I dont want any of that waste of time crap sliding to make it softer. 1st gear really revs out on the truck which is fine for me. If the truck has power there then use it! Thats my policy.
The superchip is the best $212.00 bux I ever paid!

Dear Paul T,
The Superchip sets the WOT (wide-open throttle) upshift points so the vehicle will accelerate quickest. For most of these V-8 F-150's that means increasing it by a couple hundred rpm. They will never spin the engine any higher when it's already on it's way down the power curve, however. Depending on how much throttle you apply, Ford's program has various strategies on how soon it sends the signal to upshift. For example, if you are at WOT, it sends that signal sooner; on light throttle, even at high rpms, it sends that signal later. They use some very interesting strategies depending on throttle opening.
On part-throttle, when you're not hot-******* it, you will probably notice that it upshifts a bit sooner with the Superchip than it used to, as it takes advantage of the increased torque on part-throttle. So when you're taking it easy, most people actually see an improvement in gas mileage due to this increase in torque at part-throttle, which means you will use a little bit less throttle opening to achieve the same velocity you did before.
So the answer is yes, the Superchip affects a lot more than just shift firmness on automatic transmission-equipped vehicles. It removes the upshift delay that Ford uses to elongate and soften the upshifts; the Superchip also removes the power-robbing spark retards that reduce engine pwoer during and just after a heavy-throttle upshift, and finally, the Superchip increases line pressure to snug up the upshift, and make it more positive, which reduces slippage. Your light-throttle upshifts will still be very smooth and fluid, you won't get "jerky" upshifts on light throttle. The Superchip progressively firms up the upshift as you give it more and more throttle.
I hope that helps your understanding of the Superchip, and please feel free to give me a shout if you'd like to know more details, our contact info is below.
