leadfoot, do you have a mileage difference between having the chip with 93 octane, and no chip with 87 octane?

Question Superchip removal

Is the only thing I have to do to get it out is unhook the battery and snath it out? I want it out cause gas is too high. Last week I put the 87 octane in cause that's all I could afford at the time and truck started "pinging"(sounded sorta' like a rattleing noise when I got on the gas)I put $10 worth of the highest octane in that I could find and it's a little better but it's still doing it. Have I permanantly damaged my truck? The 87 octane was in there probably 4 days before i noticed it pinging and I had been driving pretty much like your typical 18 year old guy. Any help would be appreciated and as soon as possible!! Thanks in advance.

Question

Let me get this straight. You drive a 'new' truck, bought a $200+ chip and can't afford a couple bucks extra for a tank of gas? Bummer!

leadfoot: I dont think your hurt your truck at all.. In fact in the owners manual in your truck they even talk a little about pinging from low octane gas. I dont remember what it said but you should be fine. Just use 89 octane if you can.. dont go all the way down to 87..

Also if being short on cash is that much of a problem dont have such a "leadfoot" take it easy on the truck for a while untill you make a few bucks.

Finally, Take a look at the gas milage you where getting with the chip in and out.. With it in you should be getting a lot better gas milage and your probebly saving money in the long run even if you are flooring it.

Just a couple thoughts I was going to pass by.

btr: I didn't buy th' truck it was a early graduation present...and for the record the chip was $280(yeah..I know I got screwed on that)...and can't a guy be short on cash every once in a while??

anyways, the way I understand it the knockin' will stop as soon as it get about 90 octane in it, right?

Red face

I'm chipped, I get about 1.5mpg better with the chip and using 92 octane fuel. I drive highways at reasonable speeds. With premium fuel costing what it does today, I figure it costs me an extra $1.50 - $2.00 per thousand miles driven.

White Knight - are you telling me that if I floor it I'll get better mileage? Let me get started on that right away
