Post Superchip Sales

I don't remember the person's name, and I can't find the topic on here anymore, but I have a comment.

Not too long ago a new member to the site posted a message advertising Superchips from his company. Lots of comments were made, and he was basically ran off the site. As I said, I can't find the thread, but I remember the webmaster stating something about no blatant advertising on the message boards. (Please correct me with the exact quote.)

Yet, when Mike Troyer has a thread called "How To Order Your Superchip", nothing is said at all. This just doesn't seem fair to me.

I have nothing against Mike or his company. Mike is an active and informative member of the message boards. But I think we could have very easily "ran off" someone who could have very well contributed just as much...

I guess I now see why this was done, since F150Online now has direct ordering of the Superchip from Mike via an on-line form.

Comments anyone?

Thanks Frank. Yes, that was the name, and I found one of the threads in question.

So Mike gets credit for the sale of chips through the banner ad?
Maybe I will delete my other topic if that is the case.
Very interesting this superchip marketing stuff.

Cool

Well I dunno to much about the last post but I can agree on a rule being broken it should count for everyone not just for a person that is "donating the money to charity" Sorry but I just cant believe it. I think if There is a rule all people should follow it. Thats it.

I am not trying to start anything I am just agreeing that its a rule and should be followed by all. On my forums I do not allow advertising either. And we stick to it for everyone.

Thumbs up

I can't answer for anyone else on this board, but I will add my 2 cents worth. Keep in mind, this is MY 2 cents.

I read the other threads, and when ddracing posted his message under his own message board, it was not shut down. When someone replied to him, welcoming him to the sight, and suggested, in a friendly manner, that he had his work cut out to take business away from Mike, it was not shutdown, when DDRACING replied in a negative tone, from that point on it was downhill. That is in my opinion what caused the thread to be closed, and I support webmasters decision.

Mike gets our business based on his reputation on this board, not based on him being the only person we can find on the internet to buy a chip from!

I didn't see where ddracing replied in a negative tone at all. I saw more negativity from Mike who basically insulted ddracing by saying: "Don't worry about it, he's a small new dealer, and cannot compete on price with us".

D0h.. just read the link.. and guess what.. I am sorry but that wasnt cool at all Mike. I am sure you maybe getting a good buck for your chips.. specially if you are a high ended dealer I can see you making a bit of money.. I got the book right here.. But to come off like that.. Well As a fellow distributor I wouldnt have said something like that. You have been very helpful on this board with help on the superchips and everything else which is appreciated. But to just about rip on someone elses company that was uncalled for. Yes yes I know I am new But I am just pointing out something that happens on a lot of message boards and favorites cannot be played. My personal friend that takes care of the chips we sell does not post articles on how to order a superchip. He gets enough business by people just asking. He follows the rules. If we where all able to advertise I think a lot of people on this message board will be getting better deals on these chips then what you can offer.

Right now with being able to post like that is like Holding a Monopoly. Understandable if I was the owner that had the monoply. But to break rules and laws like many corperations do this is where the small guy doesnt make it in the business world and it hurts.

Now I am getting into politics and I hate polotics.. so guess what.. How about if we all agree that all links for any advertising should be closed.. And lets get back to business with out bad boy toys

Dear Conqsoft,

Nobody has any special "rights" here, save for the Webmaster, and everyone knows it. He has made it very clear that everyone has equal access. He did it very publicly, right in that very same thread, for all to see! I saw it, as did many others. He made it very clear that he didn't want to see any more new threads from anyone that were blatantly commercial in his opinion, and that has been adhered to.

My thread was in answer to *many* requests here for something like a "FAQ", or "frequently asked questions" about how to find the computer code on all the various different trucks, how to do this, how to do that, etc. What was happening was that as new people came onto the message boards, and here to this section, many, many repetitive posts were being made, from people wanting to know this information. And I had to spend a lot of time going over and over and over the very same things. That's a tedious bore to *everyone* else who has to wade thru those posts to get to what they are really interested in. It cut down on all those repetitive posts right away, helping to reduce clutter on the message boards. People get discouraged and don't want to continue spending time in a place that always has the same repetitive types of posts, so it was a means to an end, and an answer to *many* requests.

There is an old saying, "You are either part of the problem, or part of the solution", and that guides me everyday. I sleep quite soundly at night, knowing that I contribute something to this planet, and this place right here, every day. I encourage others to do the same, and the vast majority do. This is a great place to hangout, learn, and share, and I for one intend to continue doing whatever I can to contribute to that process, hopefully.

I wish you all the best,

As my mediocre (not quite good) name is being dragged through the mud here, please allow me to repost what was posted in an earlier thread that is being refered to here...

Ok, I can see where this may eventually get out of hand so I am closing this topic. All I can ask is that anyone contributing to this board contribute truck information first, sales information last. If I were to ask one vendor to stop posting messages, I would have to ask EVERY vendor to leave. This would end up in the boards losing a few good resources.

So, I will ask respectfully - no blatant advertising posts, keep your information in the context of a reply, no new blatant advertising threads, no price wars, no spamming, etc.

If that starts to happen, I will have to respectfully ask ALL participants to leave the boards to avoid any bias or hypocrisy on my part.
Further...

Please don't take my closing the earlier thread as means to chase you off the site. You are more than welcome to hang around, contribute, and, yes, talk about the products you sell.

Please understand that I have to walk a fine line between in managing these boards. Nobody pays me so they can be here and we do not tolerate outright spamming. I am not accusing you of the latter by any means.
This does not look to me that I was "chasing" ddracing off of the boards. As diplomatically as I could, I requested that all vendors tone it down a bit.

As far as the banner ad and online ordering for Performance Products, Mike Troyer paid me to do it, just like any other advertiser on the site. It does not give him free reign to spam the message boards.

Though I do not feel I need to defend any actions that I have taken in this instance, I do want to let you know that I contacted Mike personally shortly after the first of the above threads was posted and asked him to tone down the sales aspect of his posts.

Enough said on my end.

Steve

Well put steve and after reading your responce I apologize to you if you felt like you needed to defend yourself.

I as a webmaster also know excactly how it can be having advertisers spam the site. I know you did not chase off the user, I think he felt more unwanted since a couple people said some things.

As far as Mike goes, his post before was before him having the banner ad on top.

I am glad to hear that Mike donated some money to you for us to have such a great place to discuss the F150. I thank you mike for contributing to help this board run. If I was not a webmaster also spending my own money to run my board I would also donate.

Well said Steve and Mike.
I just want to remind everyone that we are all humans {I hope} and we make mistakes. We have to learn from our mistakes. Now that everyone has heard the truth, and what should have been known at first, we can all forget about this. And Mike saying that Ddracing is a new, small dealer and cant sell at low prices, was ok. Cause if I need info, I can look to either Mike or Ddracing {if he comes back}, which gives me reliability.

Take care everyone,

Jon
