Cool SuperChip and V6 :) :) :)

All I can say is WOW!!!!!!!!

After having my wife get me a superchip for my birthday, I was wondering exactly how much of a differnce it would make. I put my chip in today and took it out for a test drive. The diffrence in the stiffness of the shifts is incredible. It almost feels like it is ready to jump right out from under me. As much as I have tried, before installing the chip, I was unable to even remotly chirp the tires much less leave anything that looked like a streak of rubber. I took some liberty out on a back road and was able to not only chirp the tires but if I put it in 1st gear and floor it ,I left a strip of rubber. Yes!! a V6 that leaves rubber on with the automatic...

There is rumor that this chip will help with gas milage but I don't think I will ever see it if I don't learn to let off the right foot. I can say superchips is correct when the speak of the benefits of the chip.

Thanks

Randy

Hi Randy!

Glad you got your Superchip! It really does help to wake up that V-6, doesn't it? We had another member who ran the 1/4 mile with and without his Superchip, and posted a .97 second reduction and a 4 mph gain in trap speed.

Welcome to the ranks of the "Superchipped!"

Hey Randy!

Ain't it great? My 4.2L just got SuperChipped too. And mine leaves a 'lil rubber now too! What's really impressive is the way the transmission seems to read your mind now and downshift when you want it too.

No more having to floor it to get a downshift on the highway.

I'd say that SuperChips claims are about right. It feels like its got at least another 20 or so ponies under the hood.

I also bought that "guard rail" chip for my Mazda MX-6 Turbo. Guard rail cuz when you nail it at 50 mph the front wheels start to spin/squeal and then torque you over to the nearest guard rail. But dang...its fun! I stopwatch timed it today (wife with stopwatch watching the speedo) and it runs 0-60mph somewhere between 5 and 6 secs. It averaged out to 5.7 secs. I know that's only a rough low tech guestimate...but what the heck...its a blast! Not too shabby for a car that used to run 0-60 in 7.3secs.

Dear Beachdoc,

Glad to see that everything arrived overnight! You're a man after my own heart, chipping all the vehicles at one time, I love it!(of course, I'm *supposed* to say that, aren't I?)

Have fun with both of them,

Finally SuperChipped

Took a little time since I had the no start problem.
Sent my computer and chip to Superchips at 10:45 Tuesday, and had it back by noon on Thursday. Now thats what I call service. I sure hated the feeling of mailing my computer away and the truck sitting there dead, but it all worked out. Installed it Friday morning and all was well.
I notice the most difference in the transmission, it really improves the transmission shifting. Pulled the boat to the lake today, and the truck didn't seem like it was working hard at all, unlike before the chip.
Anybody that still needs convincing, the Superchip is an essential accessory for the 4.2, if nothing else for the improved transmission performance.

Has anybody tried a SuperChip on a V6 with the manual transmission? My Personal Finance Manager (wife) says we can get one with our next tax refund (yep, long time away. Please don't let them increase the price, Mike), but I first want to hear from others who have done it.

Thanks for any info from anyone,

gaudenti, I have the 5 speed, 4.2 v6 and 3.08 axle. Mines a supercab though. Because of my driving style the main improvements have been taking off from a standing stop in second gear and just general drivability with the air conditioner. The superchip gave it just enough grunt to make those areas a lot easier on the engine. I do not know about gas mileage since I have never checked it either before or after chip but I imagine it lives up to the promise of improved mileage. I also do not drive this thing as a race car so I have no idea abot the speed aspects. I do like my chip though.

Dear MKreiger,

Glad to hear you're up and running, congrats! Adding 25 hp to the 4.2 V-6 does make it all worthwhile.

One thing that comes up pretty often here is owners of manual-transmission vehicles wondering if the Superchip can benefit them, and of course the answer is yes. Both the automatics and the manuals gain the same peak hp and torque numbers, 25hp and 31 lbs./ft. of torque. This takes the 4.2 V-6 to 230 hp, just 5 less than the 5.4 V-8 was rated for 97 & 98! So the power gains for both transmission types are the same.

Enjoy your new Superchip,

Cool

got my chip installed today.I have the 4.2,5-spd.,3.55,extra torque is evident around town just need a very light throttle to get up to speeds and you will get up to 50 mph in a hurry.mid range 2,000 to 3,500 really improved.on the highway lots more power cruises at 80 mph very easy and with a lot left for passsing.will check mileage next tank.had the no start problem but with Mike Troyer's help had it fixed locally.this is the man to see for a chip his help was great highly recomend a chip for the manual tranny's.

Looks like I'll be able to get my Superchip a lot sooner than I thought, probably before the end of the year! (possibly sooner if we occasionally skip meals.)

Mike,
So all I need to order is the computer code and a note from my wife, correct?

Question

I have the V-6/5-speed in my F-150 and was thinking about the superchip. The only problem seems to be this no-start hassle, what's the deal?

doc_150, I have the same set up as you.Had the no start thing. It's a very easy fix.Had Mike from super chips fax me the computer diagram and called super chips to verify where the jumpers needed to be connected.Took it to a vcr repair shop showed the tech where to solder did it in 15 min.cost 10 bucks got home installed and AWAY I WENT!!!!Exellent support from Mike Troyer and superchips.Makes a big diffrence in the 4.2. Very light pedal pressure now and it really goes with very little effert.on the highway gets to 75 in a hurry.Alot more power for passing now, very strong pulling 80 on up.Will check mileage at the next fill up.Should be better since you don't have to push the pedal down as far anymore.good luck on your decision.
