Where can I locate Computer code

I bought a used 2001 5.4 f150. The previous owner must of removed the code sticker off the passenger door, theres residue left where it used to be. I read thats its also located on the module itself, but I have no clue where the computer modules located. Thanks in advance.

Lightbulb PCM computer location (and add'l code location)

The previous owner must of removed the code sticker off the passenger door
Oh bother, the passenger door jamb would be the easiest place to find it. However, the next easiest is on the PCM (Powertrain Control Module) itself, and is just inches away!
You should find your computer under the dash against the exterior wall and directly above where a front-seat passenger's right foot would be. I can't describe the location better.
It looks like a larger than normal desktop computer hard drive (you know, silver/aluminum color). Funny thing is, the code is directly underneath a black clip. This black clip slides off toward the rear of the vehicle and you should see a white sticker with a three-letter, one-number code.
If you don't find it there, you may have to hang on till Mike Troyer gets here.
   Best of luck!

Hi Everyone,

Unthias, you can almost always find the code on a small sticker on the back of the PCM - look just above the passenger's kick panel and you'll see the PCM, it's the semi-shiny aluminum box, rectangular in shape. That black clip they are talking about is simply the "U-shaped" pressure clip that holds the PCM up against it's mounting bracket, so it doesn't flop around while driving - it has a little "tab" on it, and you just use that tab to pull that clip straight back (toward the rear of the vehicle), and it comes right off - it's just a simple plastic pressure clip. Usually where it's located obscures the code tag on the back of the PCM, so that's why we say to pull it off for just a second so you can see the back of the PCM.

Worst case, you can always remove the PCM from the vehicle as it will always have a big sticker on top of the PCM (which is actually on it's right side, the way it's mounted in the 1997-2003 F-150), so there will *always* be a way to find that code.

Of course, remember that in the 1997 & 1998 F-150's, you cannot correct the speedometer with a Micro Tuner, as that function is not in the PCM - that is controlled by the traditional speedometer gear in the tailshaft of the transmission (simple to get to and cheap to change to correct the speedo). Not until the 1999 model year can the speedo be recalibrated in the PCM's programming in these F-150's. Everything else in the Micro Tuner works for your truck of course, just not the speedo recalibration because your 1998 doesn't have that in it's PCM.

Once you find your code, if you'd like to give us a call we can go over with you just what the difference will be between the 1715 and our custom tuning for your particular truck, if you like - just FYI.

Waymond - yes, ILM3 is indeed your code. Good talking to you today, & congratulations on your new performance upgrades! Just so you'll know (as I don't remember if we discussed this when we spoke briefly over the phone today), it will take us a few days for us to custom-program your 9100 custom Micro Tuner and then it will ship out - everything else will ship right away, of course - just don't be surprised when the Micro Tuner arrives a few days after everything else, is my point.

Thanks to axle3.73 & others for helping out their fellow members!
