Post Shifting

Mike,
I have been noticing that in overdrive mode my 97 4.6 auto. shifts A LOT. in and out of overdrive. Will the addition of a superchip help that. Will it not shift so much with the added power? this is really starting to get on my nerves. And I think the only thing keeping me from getting a superchip right now is the price of fuel ($1.39 a gallon for 93)

Fordluver, I don't know if the '97 has an overdrive off button on the shift lever. But if it does, here's what Ford says about it:

Dear Fordluver,

Yes, that's one of our biggest complaints, the cycling in and out of overdrive, and it happens simply because the vehicle doesn't have enough torque to satisfy throttle/cruise control demand without coming out of Overdrive. This is common going up hills, and when towing.

The Superchip won't *eliminate* that, but it sure will help to reduce a lot of it, as it adds significant torque, and many members here have commented about this. Especially those who are towing, they love to be able to use Overdrive.

For now, I would suggest that anytime your truck is cycling in and out of Overdrive, just turn it off, so you won't have the wear on the transmission. If you decide to try our Superchip, you will love how it helps this particular situation, from the added power that is available at any throttle position.

Good luck,

fordluver,

In my experience, the Superchip will help your truck stay in overdrive on the highway because of the added HP and torque. When it does shift, it seems to shift better -- I don't know why.

As for in town driving, I haven't noticed any improvement. I don't think this is the fault of the Superchip. I just think that Ford has designed the program in such a way that the truck almost always wants to be in overdrive.
