Micro Tuner and FTVB ordered!!!!!

Well, I've been thinking about a computer mod for some time now and have prolly asked all kinds of questions Mike T could think of and prolly ones he didn't want to answer. But I found out the company that I wanted to order from, gave them a call and the staff was more than helpfull to answer any more questions. So, a Superchips microTuner and a FTVB are on the way thanks to Troyer Performance.

Let me know your impressions with both those mods when you get them installed! I have the FTVB but am lacking a chip. Congrats!

Hi PhillipSVT,

Thanks for your post - and I hope we answered any questions you may have had!

That combination will be a *very* nice improvement to that vehicle - the FTVB will help the shifts of course, and the Micro Tuner will help them even more on top of that, too, as well as give you the ability to dial the firmness levels up or down as you prefer.

I love to see that combination of parts, as the FTVB makes the transmission physically capable of flowing more fluid volume in the same amount of time, reducing clutch fill times - and that makes the line pressure increases from the Micro Tuner more effective, in addition to all the other changes in the software that improve transmission shifts - all the various delays, retards, etc. In other words, you've take care of both the program *and* the mechanical issues, so you're going to have a very nice running truck & a great-shifting automatic transmission to enjoy, on top of the power gains from the tuning.

Nice choices you've made there, have fun enjoying them!

Yes, A and C did an awesome job answering all the questions. Thats the reason why I went with the Micro Tuner, so I could adjust the shift firmness with ease, that and I tow a few times and will be better for me with the towing program. Will let everyone know how all the mods do on performance.

Actually, going to run the truck in the 1/4 before I install all the mods, then I'll install and let the truck get used to the mods then run in the 1/4, see what types of improvements I gain.

HI Phillip,

OK, glad to hear Anita & Crystal took care of you!

One quick comment, with regard to making your 1/4 mile runs before & after your mods..............you can't do that on different days and make accurate comparisons, just in case you may not be aware of that. No 2 days will *ever* have identical atmospheric conditions, and things like temperature, humidity, barometric pressure, etc. have a *big* effect on engine power & thus the acceleration times in computer controlled vehicles.

Now with the Micro Tuner you can do a nice before & after in just a short time, during the same visit to the drag strip, as that's a simple 10 minute install you can do at the track - what you *won't* be able to do (at least, not very conveniently) is to run it on 87 octane on the stock program, and then run it on premium on the Superchips tuning on the same day, for the most accurate comparison, as you'd have to drain the tank to do that - so you just do the best you can.

I would suggest that you make sure to record the following data (at a minimum, any decent track can supply you with all of this data) each time you go to the track, for each run:

1.) Ambient air temperature
2.) Relative humidity
3.) Barometric pressure
4.) Altitude

At least that way, we can do some rough estimations of the effect on performance from the different conditions you'll have any time you make runs on different days.

Another way to do comparisons like you want (and I'm really not trying to play salesman, believe it or not! ), so you don't even have to go to the track, is to use the GTech Pro Competition model - it's significantly less than the cost of a Micro Tuner, and will give you all the 0-60 times, 1/4 mile times, and much, much more data - it also will allow you to connect to your PC, make way-cool performance charts & graphs so you can do graphic comparisons, etc. - it's a *great* tool that anyone doing mods who is interested in the actual performance of their vehicle should have on hand. You can find them on our web site in the Accessories section, or you can just click on our new products link on the home page of our site.

The GTech Pro Competition unit would give you the freedom of not having to actually go to a track - you can do your testing *anywhere*, thus you can do much more accurate before & after comparisons for each modification right then & there - all you need is a cigarette lighter and an open stretch of road, both of which are usually much easier to get & use than going to a drag strip - for most people. Just a thought FYI.................

Best of luck with your mods!
