Which tuner

Finally got my 2000 4x4 5.4 to stop pinging. Ford reflashed the PCM. Now what SuperChip do I want to run for 87 octane?

Hi Tom,

When Ford changes the PCM programming to reduce pinging, then you lose power as a result - chances are they just went into the VID block to yank out timing, that's generally how it's done in most 1998 & newer FoMoCo vehicles, where in earlier ones there is an octane shorting bar that can be physically removed - in either case, doing so will generally pull 4 degrees of base timing out...............

At any rate, you'll want to use the Part# 1715 Micro Tuner for any 1997-2003 F-150 -- and to get the best price on it, give us a call at our number listed below instead of going thru our web site, due to the manufacturer's MAP (minimum advertised price) guidelines.

The 1715 Micro Tuner has 3 different performance tunes - one for 87 octane that is towing compatible (that's the program it sounds like you'll want to use), then another for premium gas that is towing compatible, and then finally, the "max" performance tune for premium gas that is not towing compatible - you'll have all 3 available to you in the 1715 Micro Tuner.

Good luck!
