Superchips question
Superchips question
Ok i Want to get the most performance out of my 4.6 (acceleration and speedwise) Should i go with the
superchip 2 program flip chip
or the
superchip Micro Tuner
superchip 2 program flip chip
or the
superchip Micro Tuner
Hi V8,
You don't have any modifications that would require custom engine tuning, so using the Micro Tuner is your best bet.
If you did serious mods that actually require custom engine tuning (things like a supercharger, ported cylinder heads, different cams, bigger MAF, larger injectors, etc.), or if you were doing enough bolt-on mods to take that 4.6 to over 310 HP, *then* you'd need custom engine tuning and thus would need to use the traditional Superchip module instead of the Micro Tuner. That is not your situation currently, so you can use either the Micro Tuner or the traditional Superchip modules.
One of the most important things you need to know are just what mods you can do and still use the 1715 Micro Tuner.................... Mods you can do and still use the tuning in the 1715 Micro Tuner in these vehicles are as follows: Intake kits, cat-back exhaust systems, larger throttle bodies, electric fans & underdrive pulleys. You can do *all* of that and still use the Micro Tuner in your 4.6 F-150 - and that will up the performance of your 4.6 by quite a bit over stock.
You'll also want to know that there is no inherent difference in performance or acceleration between the Micro Tuner and the Superchip modules with any of the "standard" (meaning non-custom) Superchips performance programs - so from that standpoint, it really doesn't matter which one you choose as the tuning available and the performance gains you'll get as a result are the same. But with the Micro Tuner, you get 3 different performance tunes in addition to all it's other additional features, so you have maximum flexibility & convenience.
Bottom line? Unless you plan on doing more mods than all of those I listed as being compatible with the Micro Tuner in the 3rd paragraph of my post, I's suggest using the Micro Tuner. The Micro Tuner will allow you to be more flexible, having 3 different performance tunes, and giving you the ability to have control over the automatic transmission functions as well as the ability to correct the speedometer should you ever change tire size or gear ratios, and it's built-in OBD-II code scanner, etc., make it the best value overall.
For someone on a tight budget and who doesn't really care about the additional features of the 1715 Micro Tuner, you can get the same basic power & performance gains from the single program Superchip in the 1997 thru 2003 F-150's. And it's not a hard installation, it just takes more time than the Micro Tuner as there are a few more steps - but we give you excellent supplemental documentation that we write ourselves, to help you get thru the installation smoothly with no surprises.
Given your vehicle's state of modification and how much more you can do and still use the Micro Tuner, I'd suggest using the Micro Tuner as your best bet.
I know this may be a bit confusing with all this info, so if you'd like to go over any of this in more detail, please feel free to give us a call & we'll be happy to go over it all thoroughly with you - we can go over your vehicle's configuration & present mods, as well as whatever you're thinking about doing to it in the future, what kinds of performance or power levels you'd like to get to, how you're using the vehicle, etc., etc, so we can give you a really good overview of all this - our phone number is just below for your convenience.
Good luck!

Hi V8,
That is a very frequently asked question here, as you might imagine - it's what we call one of "the basics" around here, so rather that us typing all that same info out again every time someone new drops by to ask about it (which is almost daily at this popular web site!), we make that info available 24 hrs. a day on our web site over at TroyerPerformance.com - In fact, click on this link and it will take you right there:
http://www.troyerperformance.com/cgi...chips%3BFoMoCo
Read up on Part# 1715, that is the appropriate Micro Tuner for these vehicles. Click on Part# 1715 for all it's details, as there is another screen with highly detailed info *after* you see the initial quick "blurb" for the 1715 on that first screen - you'll see what I mean once you're there.
You'll find very through descriptions & details there on our web site that should answer your questions. However, if there is anything more you'd like to know after reading that info, by all means please do give us a quick call & we'll be more than happy to go over any details, answer any questions you may have, etc.
Just so you'll have some quick immediate info........
1.) It has 3 different performance programs, 87 octane tow-safe, premium gas tow-safe, and then our "max" performance tune that requires premium gas and is *not* towing compatible - so the power gains will depend on which program you use - the highest performance tune gives you 20-25+ HP gains, while the lowest performance tune for 87 octane provides about an 8 hp gain to the wheels.
In terms of how much it will improve your actual acceleration times, on average with the premium gas tunes it's about 5 tenths off the 0-60 times - some trucks see as much as a full second off those times, so it is a significant improvement, especially for the price - an optimized powertrain program is generally the best bang for the buck performance enhancement for these (and most other computer controlled vehicles), as nothing else for less cost will improve performance more - now it is important to note that doesn't mean it's going to feel like a supercharger - it's not of course, only a supercharger will do that - it's just that the optimized powertrain program is generally the best bang for the buck, so it's something most people looking for more performance do.
2.) Yes, you can return to stock - the Micro Tuner stores your stock factory program to make this possible, that's the first thing it does when you install it, is to read your stock program and write it into the Micro Tuner so you'll always have it - that's a very basic requirement that all people need with a part like this, so yes you will have that capability, no problem.
All the various features you'll see at that link above on our web site.
One quick last point - the prices you'll see on our web site are the manufacturer's MAP (minimum advertised price), we are not allowed to advertise prices any lower - but we do sell those products for less when you *call* us - so if you decide to do this, when you get ready to order you'll definitely want to call us for your best price.
Best of luck, hope you enjoy what you read over on our site at that link & please don't hesitate to call us to go over any of this, OK?

Hi V8,
What you're complaining about is most likely the various transitional delays & retards in the powertrain program - like a delay to downshift under WOT - yes, you will see that improved.
For example, in automatic transmission models you will notice that the powertrain responds quicker to sudden throttle input with the Superchips tuning. Things like downshifts will happen quicker once you nail the throttle - and the upshifts will not be delayed any more either - once it starts, it'll finish that shift much quicker, and continue to pull hard without the power cycling down like it normally does after a 1-2 upshift, for for example. There are some significant delays of those types in the programming, and the various transitional delays & retards do indeed get a good deal of improvement.
Have fun,
