PCM (re)programming?

Hi guys,

I'm trying to locate some interface (programming) specifications for the PCM on late-model Ford trucks. Anyone have some sources?

I found some information on the Motorcraft site, and know what physical hardware is necessary to connect using a Laptop/computer to do the reprogramming. I'm looking into doing my own custom code-sets, and want to write my own interface software.

Thanks for any info..............

Wow..... Kind of disappointed. I know there a few guys on here with knowledge in this area.

IN any case, I've made some excellent progress.

Would anyone be interested in a simple system that allows you to save late-model Ford EEC code-set to a laptop/computer, and then re-flash it?

It would save the code-set to a bin file. This would be useful to anyone wanting to make backups and/or alter code-sets themselves (you'd have to make or acquire another piece of software to de-compile the data in the code-set).

The current hurdle is finding an inexpensive J2534 compatible pass-thru device. If I can find one thats relatively cheap, I'll proceed with writing the software.

I would make the software available as Freeware/Shareware, all you would need is hardware.

Wow. That would be interesting. If you decide to proceed, post your results/experiences as you go. I would love to read about that.

From your post, it is obvious that you have experience on the computer side of this, but do you have engine tuning experience as well?

I have the SC MicroTuner and it is great, but being able to play around slightly with the programming would be good, plus the ability to tune more than one vehicle at a time. (The MicroTuner will lock to the VIN number of the vehicle it has tuned and will not tune another until the tuning is reverted back to stock on said vehicle)

I've been known to do some programming

All this piece of software will do, is save ANY code thats stored in the control module, to a file. What you do with that file/code is your business

Example: Say you want to take you truck into a dealer for diagnostic/ warranty work, and youre worried they might flash the control module, you could make your own backup of the code-set thats currently stored, and re-flash it again if they do something stupid.
