Computer Chip with an R.V.
Can I get some help about a computer chip? I own a 1998 F-250 LD with a 5.4 and auto. trans. It pulles a 7000 LB trailer can I put a chip in my truck and pull with it?
Samkirk1,
You can tow with a chip IF it has the right program. Just talk to the vendor and make sure that the chip is programmed for the extra load from towing. I purchased the Micro Tuner with the three programs; an 87 octane tow, an 91 octane tow and an 91 octane performance. I haven't tried to tow yet, but am having fun with the 91 performance tune.

Hi sk1,
Hang in there big guy, we're getting to you!
Not all chips are the same, by a long shot - and there aren't many people who have detailed knowledge of just about all of them like we do that can give you a correct answer - also, many people read every post here, so I wouldn't get upset about that, as it doesn't mean people are ignoring you. People here try to help each other out as best they can, in their available time, so it's not a perfect process sometimes.
The reality is, I am out of town right now, and thus haven't been on since Friday, so I just now saw your post - in fact, I thought I had already answered this same question to you earlier today in another thread....I must have been dreaming.
If the chip was prograjmmed so the tuning will provide safe EGT's (exhaust gas temperatures), then yes, you can tow with it - but some are not, so I'm glad you're asking!
For example, with the Superchips Micro Tuner, there are 3 programs, and 2 of them you can do heavy towing with - you can read about it over on our web site at www.TroyerPerformance.com - click on "Shop" once the home page loads, then you'll see all the individual sections - Intake, Exhaust, Superchips, etc. Read up on Part# 1715, that's the Micro Tuner for your 98 250 LD 5.4 - you can also read up on Part#'s 1100 & 1100 if you like, those are the traditrional Superchip modules in single & dual program form - I would suggest using the Micro Tuner due to it's multi-octane & multi-performance level capability & numerous other features.
I hope that info helps, & please also feel free to give us a call if you would like to go over any of this in more detail - we'll be happy to help.

Chip with an RV
Thank you for the information. my son purchased a chip and it made a big improvement. But at his age all he wants is power. I dont want to be pulling a trailer up a grade and pistons start flying under the hood. Now you gave me information for me to look into.
