I am 'a' Mike and my answer is no.
In the 1997 model you need to change out the VSS gear on the tranny. About U$20 at the dealer. Takes about 10 minutes to install. Search the forums to see which color/teeth count you'll need.

If you have a truck with the digital odometer then yes, the chip needs to be reburned or use a 1715 tuner.

Hi Chrisely24,

Nope! You've got it easy, up thru and including the 1998 model year, you just change the traditional speedometer gear, located in the tailshaft of the transmission in the automatics.

It is only in the 1999 & newer trucks that we *have* to do that in the PCM program, either in a custom Superchip or via the Micro Tuner.

So you've got it easy, a simple $10-$15 speedo gear & about 10 ,minutes is all it takes - that will also fix the shift points in automatic models as well.

Have fun!
