Hi Belly Boat,
You don't mention who you bought the Micro Tuner from, and there's no way to identify you just by your screen name here - so nobody is really going to be able to answer you as to what you ordered or what you will actually be getting - that is between you and whoever you did business with, so give them a call right away.
There *is* a new Micro Tuner out for the F-150 platform, but they just shipped out from the manufacturer to us *yesterday* (Monday, Sept. 15th), and we'll have hundreds of them them here on Wednesday.
Anyone who places an order with *us* for the 1715 Micro Tuner is automatically getting the new updated unit.
So if you ordered it from us here at Troyer Performance/Performance Products Inc, you'll get the new 1715 updated unit - please feel free to call us to confirm that if you like, our number is listed just below. If you bought it somewhere else - well, we can't help you in that case, you'll need to call your vendor.
Briefly, the new unit has 3 performance programs now instead of just 1 - there's 87 octane towing, premium gas towing, and then finally, a premium gas no towing "max" performance program - that's the primary difference, the fact that it is now a multi-program unit.
Make sure you're actually getting the *new* updated 1715, so you get the advantage of even higher power gains from the "max" performance program which we here at Troyer Performance helped to develop, by the way, we did that 2.5 years ago with Superchips - & the latest program options, as it now has 3 different performance programs - you'll love it!
Best of luck,

is this "new" programming available for the 97 model f150s too? because I just bought a programmer last Thursday, which kinda upsets me actually. Is it possible that I can return the programmer to the vendor and order this new programmer from someone else, such as you guys.
Also, I am now getting a check engine light too, I have cleared the codes six times now and am still gettin the same ones, p1134 and p1154, bank1 and 2 fuel controls shifting rich
Any previous experience with this problem?
Dustin
Thanks for your time, this is my first post as a first time forum user.

also, my truck has ran fine up until this point and continues to run great, however the 'light' is now on
i contacted superchips today and spoke with Ron and he had me pull my plug, it was by no means running rich, the plug was white to paper bag brown
spoke with local auto-mechanic, said that situation may either be intake leak or bad o2 sensors. I didn't necessarily agree with him because it has ran fine up until this point with no 'light', although my o2 sensors have probably served their due term. The truck has right at 130,000 miles on it by the way

Hi Dustin,
Yes, you can buy the new 1715 Micro Tuner from us, and we'd be proud to earn your business and your trust - but I need to let you know some things first, things that are going to affect your decision, things you need to know about your vehicle, so please bear with me here a minute...........
Before you put *ANY* performance parts on that vehicle, I would suggest you spend some $$$ getting that truck's maintenance up to date first - long before 130K miles, you need all-new ignition components (plugs, wires & coil packs), new O2 sensors (you can replace just the 2 upstream units), flush the cooling system & refill with fresh antifreeze mixture, a new thermostat, install all new hoses & belts, new fuel filter, etc. Those things need to be done before modifying it to increase power.
You really have 130,000 miles on the O2 sensors? Wow.........they should have been replaced 4 times already by now, every 30,000 miles!
Certainly never more than 50K miles. Trust me, they are *SHOT*, and it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks or says, they are shot. You're lucky that truck even runs - unfortunately, thanks to the automakers almost nobody knows this, but O2 sensors are standard maintenance items and will *never* function properly for 70,000 miles, let alone twice that mileage - you have lost significant power and fuel mileage because of this, but just don't know it because it's such a gradual drop off - and you won't fully appreciate this until you replace them (along with everything else on that vehicle needs in the way of maintenance items). By the way, a test can be done to check the response rate of your O2 sensors, but forget it, as that means *nothing* - the O2's can be *shot* and pass a response time test, so don't be fooled by any such claims.
This will sound funny coming from a company that sells performance parts for a living, but the truth of the matter is I'd rather not sell someone a Micro Tuner than see them try to force long-ago worn out parts to be pushed even harder, as that just is not going to work - this is of course completely up to you, but at least now you know.
Oh, and by the way, neither Superchips nor anyone else can diagnose your vehicle over the phone for you. Forget what your plugs look like -heck, they may be older than 50K miles too, right? Spark plugs should be replaced every 30K miles for best performance and fuel mileage (and idle quality, driveability, etc.), forget Ford's 100K mile recommendation as that's a sure ticket to poor performance and fuel mileage. By the time you have 30K miles on most standard & platinum spark plugs, you've lost anywhere from 4-8 HP in a small to mid-size V8 engine, and fuel mileage drops off a bit, too. These things happen so very gradually that the driver can't feel it - if I replaced *just* your plugs, plug wires, coil packs, O2 sensors & fuel filter, you'd probably pick up over 30 HP from what it's able to make right now, and think you got a new motor - it would feel that different as compared to 130K mile-old components.
Today's engines have twice the normal service life - 200,000+ miles, with just changing the oil every 3000 miles. Thus you will need to replace components that you never had to on other vehicles before, so a lot of this may be news to you - don't let it shock you.
I have no idea who you ordered your Micro Tuner from, so I do not know if they will accept a return - if it had been ordered from us recently, you would not have it yet as the new units arrived just today, and you would have automatically gotten the new units unless you *insisted* on getting the then-present generation unit right away. So no, I would not be happy getting the last generation unit from anyone in the past 1-2 weeks or so - anyone selling them should have told you about the new one, and suggested that you wait for it since it was so close - it was released on Monday, just 2 days ago, and arrived here this morning.
At any rate, best of luck whatever you do, feel free to give us a call if you'd like to go over any of this, & please do take care of all the various maintenance items that truck needs - believe it or not, that is far more important than a Micro Tuner if anything else has over 50K miles on it, and you'll get at least as much power gain (if not more) from doing the maintenance then from the Micro Tuner, if everything has 130,000 miles on it!
I hope that info helps a bit, & call us if you have any questions, OK?
Good luck!

K, so lemme get this straight...
I could get an ignition upgrade package for 300 bucks, and that would cover the coils, plugs, and wires, although I replaced the plugs at 120,000, it probably wouldn't hurt. Then I would get new hoses and thermostat. Which hoses need to be replaced?
I've replaced the fuel filter at 125,000 and flushed the coolant and replaced the belt on the same day (also carry a spare belt).
O2 sensors: I only need to replace the two upstream ones? Are there 4 or 5 on my truck? And what do the downstream ones do that they don't need replacement as well? Any recommendation on brand, or all they all the same? I am pretty sure that they are original, unfortunately...
Anything else you recommend before I move on to performance?
As for the MicroTuner, I ordered from a 4 wheel drive magazine (won't mention the name) and paid significantly more than what you guys are charging and was not notified that a new one would be available (ordered it on 9-11-03), so I will try to return it and get a refund, then purchase the new one from you guys. Am I correct in assuming that you solely work for Troyer Perf.?
Also, thank you for such a thorough response, this website is awesome with all the information that is available.

Hi Dustin,
Ahhh, there's the rub - the truth is I really have no idea just which parts you've already replaced as needed, and which parts actually still need replacing - when you mentioned the O2 sensors being that old, I naturally wanted to go over some of the other basic maint. items just to share a bit of info before you start adding power - but it looks like you're already on top of a lot of that! As the vehicle owner you'll of course know it's service history far better than us, we have no idea of it's service history. In my previous post I was merely trying to give some rough "guidelines" or advice, call it what you will, in an effort to try to communicate what needs to be done before laying the power on - if it hasn't been done already.
For example, if your spark plugs only have a little over 10K miles, there's really no pressing need to replace them already - go ahead and get a 30K mile service life from them, as we can easily adjust the pricing of our ignition upgrade package accordingly if you like, no problem!
There are 4 O2 sensors on all 1997-2003 F-150's - only 2 of which are used by the PCM to adjust A/F ratios, and those are the 2 upstream units - the one on each side of the motor that is closest to the engine - meaning *before* the catalytic converters - not the 2 on each side of the motor that are just *after* the cats. Use Bosch O2's, that's what Ford uses on these vehicles from the factory & they are fine units. Shop pricing on them, & don't pay more than about $70-$75 or so apiece - Ford dealerships usually charge more.
I'm sorry to hear that you ordered your Micro Tuner just a week ago and they didn't bother to let you know anything about the new units coming out. Best of luck with that.
I hope that info helps, take care & talk to you soon!
